Canon Digital IXUS 90 IS | Digital Camera Review | Camera
The design of the Canon IXUS 90 IS camera is a nice piece of work. The camera just looks beautiful which of course is a matter of taste, but for me, this Canon model belongs to one of my favourite designs. The Canon Digital IXUS 90 has a unique operating pad; it's completely flat which makes it look like the camera has been hewn from one solid piece of metal. Even the smallest detail is well-thought through which makes this an interesting model for the design and digital photography fan.

Canon IXUS 90 IS camera housing
The rectangular housing hasn't got exactly rounded edges but shows clear curvy edges and corners. The front of the Canon IXUS 90 IS seems to be one piece of solid metal with a lens centred in a circle. Its simplicity is obvious but doesn't make the design less attractive. On the contrary, the box & circle styling seems ever so apparent on the IXUS 90 IS, more obvious and stronger than before. The horizontally bevelled top and bottom sides add to the stylish and unique appearance of the camera's front. Top right next to the lens the internal flash is situated.

Battery & Memory compartment
The top of the Canon Digital IXUS 90 IS has a carved line over the entire length. In and around this carve the on/off button and the release/zoom buttons are positioned. One side of the camera carries the built-in speaker and the other side hides the AV/Out interfaces, behind a cover that is beautifully integrated in the design. The bottom of the camera has a universal (metal) tripod connection and the compartment for inserting the Li-Ion battery and the memory card. The camera supports SD, SDHC, MMC, MMCplus and HCMMCplus. In my case a 32MB memory card was included.

3" PureColor II LCD screen
The back of the Canon IXUS 90 IS compact camera is dominated by the 3 inch sized monitor. Canon have equipped this model with a PureColor II LCD monitor with improved reproduction quality. The monitor delivers beautiful colour contrast and high resolution, offering superb functionality. To the right of the monitor Canon have integrated a new control panel. The completely flat panel is divided by two pipelines, carried out in rubber. The function symbols are placed on the flat part of the panel and what's more, the panel can be pressed. In fact, part of the panel has been cut out and filled up with a rubber part (the pipelines). That's what enables pressing the part to the left and right of the cut and that's how you get a flat control panel; a tasty solution. In the centre of the two flat operating elements the scroll dial/multi- controller has been placed for operating the other camera functions.

Canon Digital IXUS 90 IS design camera
It is quite obvious that the design department tried their best to lift the design to a higher level and in my opinion they succeeded with flying colours. The Canon Digital IXUS 90 IS camera looks simply beautiful and stylish and stands out from its competitor. The metal look and feel is terrific. The only disadvantage is the fingerprints and smudges that stay behind on the housing. This does not add to keeping the Canon IXUS 90 IS appearance nice and shiny.
