Olympus Mju 790 SW | Digital Camera Review | Storage and Energy
The Olympus Mju 790 SW comes with a standard internal memory of approximately 15MB. A nice gesture but useless in practice, in my opinion. Considering the highest quality picture, you can't even store a handful pictures on the internal memory, only 4 to be precise. You can say that the memory is interesting as a spare memory, or you can decrease the resolution in order to store some more pictures. I'd rather Olympus took the step to equip the camera with some 50MB internal storage. It would not cause a drastic drop of sales figures of the xD card.

Olympus Mju 790 SW - xD picture memory card
Since we're at it anyway, the upcoming period seems to become a very difficult one for the xD card. Almost every compact camera, with the exception of Sony and shortly Fujifilm, are using the SD platform. Even Fujifilm have equipped some of their cameras with a dual card slot to support SD and xD cards. Officially to make the switch from one brand to an xD camera flawless but it makes you wonder. The xD Picture Card is available with many speeds and capacities. Up to 2GB is on hand now and even capacities up to 8GB are possible. I am curious to see if such a capacity will come available in 2008. In any case you will need an additional card to shoot with the Mju 790 SW and let's say 3 roll films for 36 pictures (who would still remember them?) would require 512MB of storage capacity at the minimum. Personally I'd go for a capacity of 1GB.

Considering 1GB storage capacity:

Olympus 790 SW - USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection
One advantage of a faster xD memory card is the faster speed of transferring data providing the computer and the device reading the card are equipped with a fast USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection. Or in case they are not at hand you can choose to purchase a card reader. This is a handy device that needs to be connected to the USB port and that is capable of reading a card and writing to it rapidly. The device will be recognized by the computer as an external hard drive. Additionally you will also save energy.

Olympus Mju 790 SW - LI-42B Lithium Ion battery
The Olympus 790 SW compact camera uses a LI-42B Lithium Ion battery with a capacity of 3.7V 740mAh. A full battery load will let you shoot approximately 220 pictures (room temperature, wide angle and tele lens swapped every 30 seconds, flash used every two images and camera turned off after every 10 images. The camera is deactivated for quite a while and then activated again and next the test procedure is repeated.) For those who like to shoot until a 2GB xD card is full, will need a second battery.
