The camera is capable of taking 5 images one after the other, then the buffer is being emptied. When there is enough room in the buffer an image can be taken directly. When the camera is set to normal the time in between taking images will be approximately 2 seconds, activating the Continue Shooting function the time in between two images will be 0,3 second with a speed of 3 images per second. The camera has four different photo qualities, one in a ratio of 3:2. More often we see the phenomenon of the manufacturing deciding the selection of a certain compression. Not too inconvenient however the compression might work to the advantage of the file size but it doesn't always benefit the image quality. Kodak uses a strong compression and seems to be searching the limit of the right balance between quality and file size. Still I would have liked a bigger playground concerning the compression.

The camera is equipped with a USB 1.1 interface so transferring onto a computer is quickly. The camera can also transfer the images through the optional Kodak EasyShare station. This is the most handy way; no cable has to be connected to the camera. Another option is using a so-called card reader to read the memory card. Available with a USB 2.0 interface as well.
The DX 6490 uses a Lithium Ion battery with a capacity of 1700mAh. This capacity is more than sufficient to get the camera to function for about 2.5 hours, an excellent performance! The camera has a few energy saving functions. It is possible to de-activate the camera automatically after 8 minutes or even after 3 hours. The viewer and the monitor can be adjusted to de-activate after 1 minute. All in all a camera that economises its energy. For users that can't recharge the battery during holidays for example, it is recommended to buy a second battery. Be aware of the fact that a 1050mAh version is also offered as optional battery, but of course this one doesn't hold out the time a 1700mAh battery does. |
