Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ3 | Digital Camera Review | Storage and Energy
Panasonic, being one of the first to use the Secure Digital memory card and the latest SD platform SDHC of course uses this small storage card to enhance the Panasonic TZ3's internal memory. And you will have to, because the internal memory offers a moderate 13MB storage capacity. It is, to be blunt; a rather useless capacity for only a handful of images can be stored here in the highest quality. But then, Panasonic is not the only manufacturer that tries to get away with this; almost the whole compact camera line in the camera industry offers this small amount of internal memory. Therefore of course the Panasonic Lumix TZ3 contains a card slot offering support to Secure Digital and SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) memory cards. The first card offers maximum storage capacity of 2GB and the SDHC version currently offers up to 8GB but will enhance to 32GB.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 - Secure Digital memory card
Increasing the resolution to 7 Megapixels obviously means an increase of the file size again. The highest quality pictures of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 will generate a file size of around 3.5MB. So it takes around 350MB to make one hundred pictures which is an amount that seems average on a weekend out or a short break. Therefore I would suggest equipping the camera with a minimum of 512MB storage capacity or rather 1 or 2GB. The price should not be a problem anymore. The price per MB has dropped considerably and will not be an obstacle for most consumers to purchase a memory card of at least 512MB.

Panasonic Lumix TZ3 - USB Hi-Speed 2.0 Interface
Just like its predecessor the Panasonic Lumix TZ3 has been equipped with the slow version (Full Speed) of the USB 2.0 interface. I would have expected it to carry the fast Hi-Speed version by now but obviously this is not one of the main concerns of Panasonic. The name of the USB 2.0 Full Speed interface makes you believe that it is the fastest version, however; it is not. These interfaces do have rather different theoretical speeds that vary from 12Mbps and 480Mbps. Unfortunately in practice these speeds are not reached but any gain in speed is welcomed with open arms. The speed performance of transferring the files to a computer through the USB cable is average. Any user of a computer equipped with a fast USB 2.0 High Speed interface will sooner use a fast USB 2.0 High Speed card reader for speed and ease.

Panasonic TZ3 - CGR-S006E 7, 2V 710mAh battery
Performance as far as energy consumption is somewhat improved compared with the TZ1. The Panasonic TZ3 camera gets its energy from a Panasonic CGR-S006E 7. 2V 710mAh battery. According to CIPA standard, this capacity offers around 270 pictures or approximately 135 minutes. Recharging the battery through the adapter takes around 120 minutes. These are good figures in general, and will serve most of the consumers well and enable them to get through the day all right. Naturally sometimes during a daytrip, party or holiday, chances are that no possibility is offered to recharge the battery. In that case I recommend purchasing a second battery.
