Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd | Digital Camera Review | Camera
The Fujifilm S6500fd is a so-called hybrid digital camera. Therefore, the camera looks like a SLR camera on the outside, but then with a very compact design. Personally, I think the design succeeded adequately, especially the lens looks very nice. The only thing one will miss as a DSLR fan is the solid weight. The Fujifilm S6500fd Megazoom camera feels too light to the touch for this; however, this does not decrease anything in the camera’s finishing and construction.

Fujifilm S6500fd - Fujinon f/2.8-4.9 6,2-66,7 mm lens
On the front of the Fujifilm S6500fd Megazoom camera, the Fujinon f/2.8-4.9 6,2-66,7 mm lens has a prominent place. With a zoom range corresponding to 28 - 300mm, one can shoot nearly any subject. The Fujifilm has a real wide angle, which is a very strong feature. With Megazoom cameras, the wide angle seems to be lacking very often, whereas this focal point is very interesting. The lens is equipped with a regular zoom ring, which works very pleasant. Manually focusing also happens with a ring, but because this is being conducted electronically after all, this does not work as directly like when one would do this truly manually. One misses the feeling like with an objective for a SRL camera. Praiseworthy is also the lens hood, which Fujifilm provides with the camera. In between the lens and the built-in flash, is a small microphone for sound recordings. To the left of that, is a little LED serving as an AF assistance illuminator and as an indicator for the self-timer.

Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd - Focussing
On the right side of the lens is the switch for the different focal settings. I find this an excellent position, much better than having to search the menu, for instance. In the middle of the switch is a button with which one can, just once, focus automatically. This way you can, once the focus is set on manually, quickly use the auto focus. This is a very useful addition. On the side of the camera, behind a rubber flap are the connections for the A/V Out, the external power supply unit and a fast USB 2.0 Hi-Speed. On this side of the Fujifilm S6500fd camera, we also find the flap that hides the small xD Picture flash memory card and the speaker.
Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd - Built-in flash
On top of the Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd, the built-in flash stands out. Unfortunately, a flash shoe is absent, for this we have to look at its big brother, the Fujifilm S9600. Near the clearly present grip, we can find the selection button for the lighting settings. On the grip itself one will find the release button with around it, the main switch. A logical spot, and this way the Fujifilm S6500fd will not be activated accidentally. Furthermore we find a button for recording speed and lighting compensation. When holding the Fujifilm S6500fd upside down, we can see a universal (plastic) tripod connection and the flap for the four AA format batteries. The toggle for the flap needs a little more attention. When taking the camera out of the camera bag, the flap sometimes slides open, causing for the batteries to fall out. Possibly a flaw with just this sample.

Fujifilm S6500fd - Electronic viewfinder & Four-way button
The large LCD-monitor, with a diameter of 2.5-inch, decorates the back of the Fujifilm S6500fd camera. Above that, sits the ocular to the electronic viewfinder. The viewfinder itself still has been equipped with a diopter-setting, so you can take pictures without glasses. Above, on the right side of the monitor is a button with a facial image located. With this, the face detection can be activated. Underneath this, is another button for switching between the electronic viewfinder and the monitor, and directly beneath it is the zoom button. In the middle we find the well-known four-way button, for browsing the menu or the image. The menu/ OK button takes a central place. Underneath the circle, to the left of it, is the button to switch the monitor on or off and to undo an action. To the right of this we find the, meanwhile well known, Fujifilm button; the F-button. With this, one can make a few photographic settings, like sensitivity and colour reproduction.
