The Coolpix has an affective resolution of 5 Megapixels which offers a size of 2.5MB per image. This size is measured in JPEG format, compression put to Fine. For those who prefer compression to the Fine quality, end up with 1.3MB per image. Other resolutions are: 1600x1200, 1280x960, 1024x768 and 640x480. Its also possible to set the handy 3:2 resolution of 2592x1728 pixels. This image size matches the traditional 10x15 photo so that there won’t be any loss of image by printing it or ordering it from an Internet lab.
The 5 Megapixels of resolution that offers the camera need more storage capacity than the 32MB CompactFlash memory card that is delivered standard with the camera. More realistic would be a capacity of 256 or 512MB. Certainly if the camera is used on holidays one needs a memory card with more capacity to capture images. |
The camera is being delivered standard with a Battery Charger and a Lithium Ion rechargeable battery (EN-EL1). The battery needs charging for about 2 hours in the battery charger and is then placed in the handgrip of the camera. The battery doesn’t have the biggest power amongst the batteries of competing brands but still offers about 3 hours of power. This means when put in to practise, one can take photographs for one whole day (about 250 images) and when the battery is empty, it will be recharged within 2 hours. For those who will be out of electricity during holidays, they can consider taking an extra battery with them or use a non rechargeable DL-245 (2CR5) Lithium battery in case of necessity. |
