Nikon Coolpix 5400 | Digital Camera Review | Menu - Record
The Coolpix 5400 features 3 menus that can be managed or changed through the LCD monitor. These 3 menus are only available when pressing the menu button at the back of the camera in P, S, A or M setting. It brings up My Menu, and by selecting the Show All Menus all the options will show.
The first page contains the White Balance mode. This mode has 8 options: Preset, Manual, Daylight, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Cloudy, and Speedlight (attune to the light of the built-in flash). Second option is Metering: Matrix, Centre Weighted and AF Spot modes. Third option is Continuous like we’ve explained in the previous part. The forth option is the BSS (Best Shot Selector.) This mode is very useful when taking photographs under difficult conditions. De camera will continuously take pictures as long as the release button is being pressed down with a maximum of 10 pictures. The images will be judged by the camera and only the best image will be captured. This option can be refined by putting the emphasis on selecting images with over- and underexposure. It is also possible to have the image with the best tone distribution selected. A fifth and sixth option is: Image Adjustment and Saturation Control. The last mode is the User Setting: an option which enables the pre-setting of two settings, so they can be recalled at once.
The second page features 7 options: Image Quality and Size, Sensitivity, Image Sharpening, Lens (a function to adjust the camera to the use of certain converters, Adaptors or Filters), Exposure Options (AE Lock, and Bulb/Time mode up to 10 minutes), Focus Options, and Zoom Options. The last one can be set to be either ON or OFF for the digital zoom. It also sets or clears the Aperture mode. To set the Aperture mode to f7 it works for the best. Because this way the Aperture value doesn’t change when zoom mode is being used.
The third page features 7 different options. The Speedlight option offers the choice to use an external Speedlight Nikon flash as extra light source or for example to adjust the flash intensity, Auto Bracketing and Noise Reduction, Reset mode, My Menu and CF Card Format. The My Menu mode offers you to set a personal page which shows at the most 6 favourite settings.
