NikonNikon Capture NX Software EISA Award : Nikon Europe has taken a top honour at the prestigious EISA 2006-2007 Best Product Awards, with Nikon’s U Point Technology/Capture NX software triumphant in the European Photo Innovation category. The awards, demonstrates Nikon’s commitment to producing a range of best-in-class products that are chosen by professional camera users all over the world for their quality, variety and overall performance. Martina Beckmann, Manager Communications & Marketing Services at Nikon Europe, said: “We are particularly pleased that the Nikon Capture NX software has been recognised by the EISA judges for 2006-07 as it is a product that epitomizes all that Nikon stands for in terms of great technology.

With groundbreaking systems and technology that maximize both quality and productivity, the award-winning Nikon Capture NX software provides compelling solutions to enable photographers to stay ahead of the game.” Giving their reasons for awarding the European Photo Innovation category to Nik Software’s U Point Technology, included in Nikon’s new imaging software Capture NX, the EISA judges said: “U-Point gives photographers unique tools to control colour tone, hue, brightness and contrast. Without the need for any selections or masking, it is now easy to adjust individual colour areas in the picture, as required by the photographer. This powerful technology works with any JPEG, TIFF or NEF image files, allowing useful adjustments such as correction to layers, and leaving the original file untouched. The final results can all be exported in NEF format.

Nikon RAW editing software - Digital workflow
File directory, Browser, Shooting data and IPTC panels pop out from the left when required, editing lists and settings dialogues on the right. When editing NEF (Raw) files all camera pre-set adjustments can be made directly from the shooting data panel, even from within the browser. The result is an uncluttered viewing environment with an interface that is simple and quick for the novice to learn and use but which does not compromise on the advanced tools experienced professionals expect from Nikon.

Nikon Capture NX - Image Control
Revolutionary U Point technology is a unique new method of applying subtle enhancements to areas of any JPEG, TIFF or NEF (Raw) image. By simply clicking a Control Point onto the chosen area, a variety of local adjustments can be applied. The effects are subtly blended with other adjustments to provide a natural looking result, until now only possible with extensive mastery of layers and masking techniques. For example by clicking a Control Point to the sky enables one to obtain complete control over its color.

To prevent other areas being affected requires simply clicking Control Points to isolate them from the affects of the first. Applying Control Points to, say, a subject's skin adjusts that area. Just add, duplicate or delete any number of Control Points as you wish along the way. There are also dedicated Control Points for Black and White points, convenient for adjusting dynamic range, a Neutral Control Point to modify overall color cast even in images without a gray tone, and a Red-Eye Reduction Control Point.
