Ricoh Caplio R4 review at PhotographyBLOG : DIWA member Mark Goldstein from PhotographyBLOG has reviewed the Ricoh Caplio R4 digital compact camera. The Ricoh R4 camera boasts 6 Megapixels and a 7.1x optical wide zoom, (28–200 mm in 35 mm camera format). The CCD is effective up to 6.04 Megapixels with the Smooth Imaging Engine image processing system. Combined with the vibration correction function, high-definition images can be created. The Ricoh R4 has an easy-to-see 2.5 inch large-scale LCD monitor with improved resolution (153,000 pixels compared to 110,000 for the Ricoh R3). During playback, 12 pictures can be displayed simultaneously on the large screen. The brightness of the LCD can be increased to maximum with a single touch.

Ricoh R4 digital camera - Aberration
According to Mark Goldstein: "The Ricoh Caplio R4 did not handle chromatic aberrations very well at all, with obvious purple fringing effects appearing in high contrast situations. The 6 Megapixel images were quite soft straight out of the camera at the default sharpen setting of Normal and either require some further sharpening. The night photograph was OK, with the maximum shutter speed of 8 seconds allowing you to capture just enough light for most situations, and the resulting images not showing too much noise.
Ricoh Caplio R4 compact camera - ISO & Anti shake
Mark continues: "Surprisingly, the increase in megapixels seems to have actually improved the image quality a little, with noise now starting to appear at ISO 200, rather than ISO 100 as on the R3. Unfortunately the Ricoh R4 still suffers from obvious chromatic aberrations and poor night shots, although once again the the amazing macro mode and the anti-shake system are definitely worth having. The main attractions of the Ricoh Caplio R4 remain the same." You want to learn more about the Ricoh Caplio digital camera? Continue to read the Ricoh Caplio R4 review at PhotographyBLOG.
About PhotographyBLOG
Mark Goldstein started his very active website PhotographyBLOG in January 2003. At first the one and only purpose was to let this site function as one of those popular web logs with Photography as main topic. But as we all know Photography is a pretty big subject to publish about so Mark decided to focus on some hot key points like mentioning all new introductions, reviews, reports from events like PMA and Photokina, sharing some impressive and creative photos and Mark's sole perspective of his feeling about this fascinating world of Digital Imaging. Mark is based in the UK, but his eagle-eye focuses global.
