PhotokinaPhotokina model contest 2006 : This year, the Fashion, Advertising and Industrial Photography Working Group (AWI) will once again provide young men and women aged between 16 and 22 with the opportunity to begin a fascinating career as a photographic model. With its YOUNG FACES Model Contest 2006, AWI will build on the huge success of the model contest held during Photokina 2004. In a first for Germany, the competition is being organized as a nationwide event by three professional advertising-related companies: AWI, the magazine Designers Digest, and the Munich-based agency Most Wanted Models. The final round of the competition will be held at Photokina 2006, the world’s leading trade fair for imaging in Cologne.

The competition among the participants will be very tough, as the selection criteria are very demanding. It all takes place as dictated by professional practice. In order to take part in the competition, prospective models have to register online at and send in two photographs of themselves (one portrait and one full-length picture). Applicants must be at least 1.70 meters tall. The pictures of the applicants will be displayed at the Young Faces website, where users can evaluate them.

Photokina model contest - Sessions and Finals
A panel of experts will choose the 200 most suitable candidates, who will then be invited to four regional casting sessions and photo shoots. The regional casting sessions will be documented by professional photographers from AWI. These photographs will be compiled into a sed card for each prospective model and displayed once again at the YOUNG FACES website for online viewing and evaluation. At each regional event, ten participants will be selected for the final round in Cologne.

Photokina 2006 model contest - Photo shoot and Catwalk
The 40 regional winners will then be invited to come to Cologne. On each of the first four days of Photokina 2006, ten of the regional winners will then again take part in photo shoots, besides appearing in a big fashion show to demonstrate their skills in front of a large audience. On the evening of September 29, the jury will select the overall winner from among the winning contestants of each of the four days. The model contest will come to its thrilling conclusion in the trade fair halls with the Photokina catwalk and a big party for the winners.

Professional photo shoot - Koelnmesse
AWI will organize a professional photo shoot for the winners with two photographers each. In addition, each winner will be awarded a contract from the participating model agencies. The competition will be held at Photokina’s “Meet the Professionals” center in Hall 1 at Koelnmesse. This will be the meeting place for representatives from the creative scenes in the worlds of photography, advertising, the press, content services and electronic media. User associations and organizations from Germany and abroad, agencies and publishing houses alike will be presenting themselves here at information events, workshops and exhibitions.
