Sony Cybershot H5 review at Steves Digicams : Our good friends at Steves Digicams have published their review of the Sony Cybershot DSC H5 digital camera. The Sony H5 features a 7.2 Megapixel CCD imager and extra-large, three-inch LCD screen. Sony’s ultra-fast Real Imaging Processor circuitry increases the Sony Cybershot H5 its battery efficiency for quicker start-up, faster shot-to-shot times, higher-quality movie capture, and longer battery life. The Sony Cybershot H5 digital camera incorporates Sony’s Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization to help reduce image blur caused by hand movement. Furthermore, the Sony’s Clear RAW noise reduction technology minimizes picture noise, making it easier to shoot at faster shutter speeds.

Sony H5 camera - Optical zoom lens
According to Steve Digicams: "This versatile lens is also fast; its maximum aperture ranges from f2.8 at wide angle to f3.7 at telephoto, further enhancing your ability to capture sharp images in marginal lighting conditions. I noticed a moderate amount of barrel distortion in full wide angle, but no pin cushioning at telephoto focal lengths. There was a slight amount of chromatic aberration (purple fringing on highlights) in high-contrast areas, most noticeable at the telephoto end of the zoom range."
Sony Cybershot H5 review conclusion - Steves Digicams
Steve continues: "With the help of its AF-assist lamp, the Sony H5 was able to auto focus very reliably in conditions of low ambient light; in complete darkness, the maximum range of the AF-assist lamp was about 12 feet. AF was effective in low light even in the telephoto range of the H5's zoom lens. Image noise was very good for a camera in this class, essentially absent at ISO settings of 80 and 100, detectable in shadow areas at ISO 200, and noticeable at ISO 400 with some loss of fine detail."
