CESConsumer Electronics best Fathers Day gift : Father's Day gifts could account for more than $9 billion in spending on consumer electronics this year, according to research released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). According to Gadgets for Dad: A Father's Day Study, 24 percent of adults intend to buy a CE device for dad this year, while 38 percent of teens are looking to treat their father to a gadget gift this holiday. "As prices come down on some of the most desired CE products, even smaller holidays offer dads the opportunity to build their gadget collection," said Sean Wargo, CEA's director of industry analysis. CEA's research shows that 42 percent of dads are hoping for a CE device as a gift for Father's Day.

Though the top-rated choice among fathers was a nice restaurant meal (72 percent), CE devices beat out some of the more traditional gift options such as clothing (40 percent) and grilling equipment (30 percent). MP3 players and digital cameras scored highest among the specific CE products dads said they would like to receive. Further, the survey shows that 74 percent of dads would actually prefer an HDTV to a gas grill as well as 70 percent who say they would take a digital camera over a set of golf clubs. "The growing transition from traditional Father's Day gifts to more CE-oriented purchases serves as a positive marker for the industry," said Wargo.
