Canon IXUS 800IS review : The successful series of digital IXUS cameras brings us the Canon Digital IXUS 800 IS digital camera. This new top model from the Digital IXUS series is equipped with the latest technology, and comes in the trendiest "jacket" of the series. As far as specifications are concerned, the Canon IXUS 800IS leads Canon's compact camera range; not only does the camera have the stylish looks that the IXUS line is famed for, it also features a 4x optical zoom and the same optical Image Stabilizer (IS) technology that is used in Canon's professional EF lenses. We've been able to use the Canon Digital IXUS 800 IS in practise for a while, our findings can be read in the following camera review.

Canon IXUS 800 IS - Camera design
Canon Digital IXUS 800 IS features a truly stunning design. It has been beautifully finished, and the housing instantly gives off an air of sheer quality. The attractive black frame surrounding the LCD monitor is a small, yet striking detail, and really does make this camera stand out from the competition. Besides the actual design, the camera is pleasant to hold, although I do find the material slightly too slippery. Nevertheless, the combination of design and user convenience remains of an undeniably high quality.
Canon Digital IXUS 800 IS - Optical image stabiliser
Smaller, lighter camera bodies are more susceptible to camera shake from handheld shots, especially in low light situations. The Cannon Digital IXUS 800IS employs the same optical Image Stabilizer (IS) technology used in Canon's professional EF lenses to reduce the image blur caused by camera shake. IS allows for sharper flash-free shooting by enabling photographers to shoot at shutter speeds up to 3 stops slower. It also allows for steadier macro shooting when using the camera's 2cm Macro mode.
Canon IXUS 800IS - Creative shooting
Canon's My Colors photo effects can be applied to images both before and after shooting, offering users more opportunities to customise their creations without having to connect to a PC. The Canon IXUS 800 IS offers 16 shooting modes including Manual mode. Preset scene modes assist with tricky lighting conditions, including an Underwater mode for shooting underwater with the optional Waterproof Case. Color Accent and Color Swap modes enable dramatic colour effects to be applied to both images and movies.
Canon IXUS 800 IS review
The Canon Digital IXUS series of digital cameras has been successful for many years. At this time, the new Canon Digital IXUS 800 IS leads the series, and will undoubtedly enjoy a warm welcome from the IXUS enthusiasts. We had the opportunity to test the Canon IXUS 800 IS during a long period of time. Whether or not Canon set a new benchmark for their compact camera line can be read in the following Canon Digital IXUS 800 IS review.
