For photo imaging applications, the scanner features Epson Easy Photo Fix technology, which provides one-touch color restoration of faded photos, slides and negatives. The Epson 4490 document scanner also includes built-in Digital ICE Technologies that easily remove scratches and dust from negatives and slides with a single mouse click. Furthermore, the Epson Perfection 4490 Office features hardware resolution of 4800 x 9600 dpi and a 3.4 Dmax rating for superior image quality and detail.

The automatic document feeder and transparency unit for film scanning are easily inter-changeable by the user. The Epson Scan driver offers four different user modes: Full Auto, Home, Office, and Professional modes. The software automatically detects whether the document feeder or transparency unit is installed on the scanner. The appropriate scanning modes and features are then instantly made available in the software. This ensures that users will be able to scan both documents and photos with maximum ease of use and efficiency.
