HuaweiHuawei 360 degree VR Camera gets registered : About half a year ago Huawei announced the Honor VR camera. This clip-on 360 degree camera has been developed in partnership with Insta360. The camera has only been put to market in China, as a test. Although no official statement has been made by Huawei since then, it seems the test has been successful. As Huawei now filed a trademark for its own 360 degree camera, both in the United States and Europe. The trademark was filed on September 19 with the USTPO and the EUIPO for the name 'Huawei EnVizion 360 Panoramic VR camera'. As these words don't leave much to the imagination, this has to be a 360 VR camera.

The trademark is categorized as: 'Panoramic cameras; lenses for cameras; camera software for mobile phones and computers'.

The documents were found by our good friends at Mobiel Kopen, the US document can be found here, the EU document here. They also discovered the name 'EnVizion' was first registered 10 years ago, but it seems Huawei has never used the name so far. A small detail, last year Huawei also announced a video solution with the corresponding name 'Envision' (with an s instead of a z).

Insta360 and the Huawei 360 VR Camera
This is the first time we hear about a Huawei 360 VR camera. Half a year ago, a Huawei representative said they had no plans on launching the Honor 360 VR camera outside of China. But with the recent trademark applications in the US and EU, it seems Huawei wants to launch a similar product under its own brand name, outside of China.

As always, the trademark documents don't reveal any details regarding the specifications of the device. As Huawei partnered with Insta360 for its Honor 360 camera, it seems logical for them to team up again.

By attaching an Insta360 camera to a smartphone’s USB port and downloading the Insta360’s app, users can create and share 360-degree photos and videos. It's similar to the Gear 360 from Samsung. With the current generation of 360 cameras from Insta360, livestreaming is also possible on an increasing number of social media websites, including YouTube and Twitter.

Release date
In the EU the trademark application has already been approved, meaning we could very well see a launch next month, when Huawei also introduces its Mate 10 series in München. Otherwise we may have to wait till the CES in January 2018.

Yesterday we also discovered a Russian trademark for the Honor 6C Pro.

360 degree cameras
More and more companies enter the market of 360 degree cameras. Ricoh recently launched the Theta V, Nikon has the KeyMission 360 and Samsung recently filed a trademark for its 360 Round camera. Time will tell whether Huawei is able to develop a 360 VR camera that stands out from the crowd.
