HuaweiHuawei Mate 10 smartphone with Selfie flash : Huawei already confirmed its new flagship device will be announced on October 16, 2017. The Huawei Mate 10 will succeed the one year old Mate 9. It is believed the new premium smartphone will feature a completely new bezel-less design with a 6.1" display. The new handset will be powered by the recently announced Kirin 970 processor with 6GB of RAM. In addition, the camera receives an update. A recently applied trademark suggests the Huawei Mate 10 comes with an advanced Selfie flash. The trademark application is filed for the term 'Selfie Toning flash', which doesn’t leave much to the imagination. The Mate 9 does have a LED flash, but only for the main camera, not for the selfie camera.

Our friends over at Mobiel Kopen found the trademark application, which can be examined here.

The application has been classified as: Flash-bulbs; screens; darkroom lamps; diaphragms; shutters; magic lanterns; filters; flashlights; filters for ultraviolet rays, for photography…'

Only a few high-end devices come with a sefie flash. For example, the iPhone 7 does incorporate a selfie-flash, while the Galaxy S8 lacks a front-flash. Huawei itself already has a lot of experience with a LED front-flash in its Honor 7, 8 and 9 smartphones.

At this time it is still unknown whether Huawei chooses to equip both the Mate 10 and the Mate 10 Pro with a front-flash. For the P10 series, there are differences in terms of camera specifications between the P10 and the P10 Plus (mainly lens aperture differences). Huawei could of course decide to only integrate a selfie-flash in the Mate 10 Pro, although this doesn't seem likely.

The current Mate series consists of the Mate 9 and the Mate 9 Pro. Both Huawei smartphones feature a 8 megapixel selfie camera with autofocus (without flash). The main camera is a Leica Dual Camera with a 12 megapixel RGB sensor and a 20 megapixel monochrome sensor.

On October 16 we will find out all details, as this is the date Huawei organizes a press event in Münich, Germany for its new flagship devices.
