Strategy AnalyticsSamsung Galaxy S8 becomes best-selling Android phone : Boston-based Strategy Analytics published a new market report and which concluded that the Galaxy S8 has become the world's best-selling android smartphone in Q2 2017. According to the independent report from Strategy Analytics, Samsung Galaxy S8 was the world’s best-selling Android smartphone model in the second quarter of 2017. The premium flagship series together shipped an impressive 19 million units globally. Worldwide smartphone shipments reached a robust 360.4 million mobile devices in Q2 2017. The top-five most popular smartphone models together accounted for 1 in 6 of all smartphones shipped worldwide during the quarter.

According to Neil Mawston, Executive Director at Strategy Analytics, Samsung Galaxy S8 shipped 10.2 million units for third place and 3 percent market share worldwide in Q2 2017. The Galaxy S8+ captured fourth position with 9.0 million device shipments and 2 percent market share globally.

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 has instantly become the world’s most popular Android smartphone model, due to its attractive curved-screen design, a rich portfolio of Android software apps, and best-in-class retail distribution across dozens of countries.

Strategy Analytics has estimated Apple shipped 16.9 million iPhone 7 handsets and captured 5 percent market share worldwide in Q2 2017. The Apple iPhone 7 remains the world’s most popular smartphone model overall, due to a compelling blend of user-friendly design, extensive supporting apps, and widespread retail presence for the device.

Apple iPhone 7 Plus, with its bigger screen and higher pricing, shipped 15.1 million devices for second place and 4 percent market share worldwide in Q2 2017. Apple today accounts for two of the world’s top five smartphone models.

Linda Sui, Director at Strategy Analytics, added, "We estimate Xiaomi Redmi 4A shipped 5.5 million devices for fifth place and 2 percent worldwide market share in Q2 2017. Xiaomi smartphone brand is becoming wildly popular across Asia.

Xiaomi is now the fourth largest smartphone vendor in China and the second biggest vendor across India. Xiaomi is selling a large volume of Android-based smartphones through online channels with key distribution partners such as Flipkart and JD.
