Canon M6 system camera review : Three months ago, Canon introduced its new system camera, the EOS M6. The new digital camera looks a lot like the EOS M5, which was named by many as "the first serious Canon system camera". Contrary to what the name suggests, the Canon M6 is placed just below the M5. The biggest difference is the lack of an electronic viewfinder. The 24-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, the Digic 7 image processor and the Dual Pixel AF system are all taken from the M5. We received a Canon EOS M6 review copy and tested this mirrorless camera with the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM kit lens. Below you'll find a series of test photos and videos taken with the EOS M6.
Canon EOS M6 review
As mentioned, the EOS M6 does not feature an electronic viewfinder, however, the compact system camera sports a 3.0-inch LCD display with touch control. The display has a high resolution of 1.040.000 pixels and is also tiltable, the screen is not rotatable. It’s a great display to work with, Canon offers an easy-to-use interface and the touch control works very intuitive.
The Canon M6 also offers WiFi, NFC and Bluetooth support. You can easily transfer your recordings to a smart device, such as your smartphone or tablet. In addition, it is possible to control this EOS system camera remotely via your smartphone.
Canon EOS cameras
Canon digital cameras are not the cheapest, but are among the best cameras available. Canon cameras are known for their good image quality, the EOS M6 is no exception, on the contrary, it's a great camera to shoot with and the results are particularly beautiful. Not so strange considering the EOS M6 integrates the same sensor, processor and AF system as its bigger brother, the EOS M5.
Canon M6 in practice
When you compare the specs of the M6 with another camera model, you may find the EOS M6 misses a few features, such as the lack of an electronic viewer, no built-in image stabilization, and no 4K video function.
On the other hand, all the features that are integrated are so well-designed that you forget about these shortcomings soon. The Full HD videos are of excellent quality and the folding touchscreen LCD display is a pleasure to work with.
In addition, all EF-M lenses are provided with optical image stabilization, which means that internal stabilization is not required for vibration-free shooting.
Canon EOS M6 videos
The video function on the EOS M6 works simple and good. That makes this camera ideal for vloggers and YouTubers. Okay, the 4K resolution is not supported, but in many cases you will not need this resolution either. Full HD files are much smaller than 4K files, which also speeds up the transfer rate considerably.
Canon EF-M lenses
Due to the late launch of Canon system cameras, the lens assortment has also been limited for a long time. In the meanwhile, the offer has been extended to seven lenses covering the most common focal lengths, including a macro lens, portrait lens, zoom lens and a ultra-zoom lens.
