SamsungSamsung Electronics Mobile division 2017 financial results : Samsung has reported strong sales in Q1 2017 and extended global leadership with the product launch of Galaxy S8 devices. The IM Division - comprising the Mobile Communications and Networks Businesses - posted KRW 23.50 trillion in consolidated revenue and KRW 2.07 trillion in operating profit in Q1 2017. While smartphone and tablet market demand saw a slight decrease quarter to quarter due to seasonal effects, cellular phone shipments for the mobile division slightly increased compared to Q4 2016. This increase was largely due to the newly released Galaxy A 2017 devices and solid sales in the mid- to low-end segment in emerging markets. However, overall profit for the division decreased due to price drop of Galaxy S7 mobile devices.
Mobile device trends 2017

Samsung Mobile trends 2017
Looking ahead to Q2 2017, while market demand for smartphones and tablets is forecast to remain flat, the worldwide rollout of latest flagship models, Galaxy S8 and S8+, is expected to help the mobile division increase revenue and profit QoQ, while global phone shipments are expected to remain flat due to decreased sales of mid- to low-end smartphones. The new S8 mobile devices were launched in Q2 2017 and show robust sales.

As for 2017, Samsung Mobile Electronics anticipates market demand in smartphones to slightly increase with solid replacement demand growth in the mid- to high-end segment. However, competition is expected to intensify with newly launched mobile devices in the market.

Samsung Mobile will aim to improve performance YoY by maximizing sales of the premium Galaxy S8 series and successfully launching a new flagship smartphone in the second half. In addition, the company will maintain profitability in the mid- to low-end mobile phone segment.
