CeBITAugmented Reality in Vehicle Development & Safety Research : At the CeBIT 2017 exhibition in Hannover (Germany), a new system will be presented which allows the user to interactively visualize simulation results of the airflow around a motorcycle using Augmented Reality. Another novelty is the application of Augmented Reality in the field of accident reconstruction. Numerical simulations are essential for the development of complex machines, systems and vehicles. Their potential for rapid optimization allows meeting and setting of standards for efficiency and quality. The accuracy in the reconstruction of an accident scene can be significantly improved by employing FEM simulations. For easy interpretation they can be visualized right on the real vehicle. Therefore the accident progress involving approaching of the vehicles, the collision, forces and deformations become comprehensible.

Augmented Reality in vehicle development
This scene can be expanded by virtual objects like 3D scans of other vehicles and the environment. The road, traffic signs, road markings and roadside installations are stored in a parametric database and complete the depiction of the accidents scene and the course of events. The High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) is the first national supercomputing center in Germany. HLRS partners with research and industry in order to advance innovative architecture concepts and programming methods. This allows to support its customers and users with new concepts, individual tools and prototypical implementations. At CeBIT 2017, visitors can experience the new system in a live demonstration.
