OlympusOlympus E-M1 firmware upgrade : Olympus announces a firmware upgrade for the OM-D E-M1 body that adds two new features to the award-winning camera’s flagship specifications. Launched in 2013, the Micro Four Thirds OM-D E-M1 is one of the most advanced compact system cameras ever made. The software upgrade comes with 9-fps sequential autofocus on top of the OM-D’s benchmark Dual Fast AF, refocusing for each frame to deliver pin-sharp stills with zero blur. It also makes the Olympus E-M1 camera compatible with the latest version of OI.Share (v2.5), which in turn enables Live View control during video recording via a WiFi-connected smartphone. The Olympus OM-D firmware upgrade is available from 24 February on via the Olympus Digital Camera Updater.

By outperforming conventional D-SLR systems for both size and image quality, the E-M1 has won widespread praise from professional photographers, not to mention prestigious awards. Last year it received the iF Product Design Award 2014 for its compact, lightweight and iconic design. Using the new remote Live View movie shooting capability, photographers can adjust an array of settings directly on their smartphone via Wi-Fi, including shooting mode. They can also control the zoom on electronic lenses, activate the record button and quickly transfer recorded files to other devices. Set-up is simple using the QR code displayed on the Olympus camera.

Adobe software updates
To complement its convenient dimensions, the Olympus OM-D E-M1 body is equipped with one of the world’s fastest autofocus systems and 5-axis image stabilisation - which makes it ideal for spontaneous, hand-held video and still-photo capture. In addition to the continuous AF with 9fps sequential shooting delivered by the new firmware, the OM-D system gets the best performance out of the lens by automatically switching between Phase Detection and Contrast AF. Raw files captured with the OM-D E-M1 can be developed in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, Photoshop and Camera Raw using Adobe Systems updater programs released together with the Firmware Upgrade. The Adobe updates include lens profile data for all Olympus Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds lenses, which makes it possible to compensate distortion, shading and color aberration.
