AviraFree Android Security for smartphones : Security expert Avira announced the official launch of Avira Free Android Security 2.0, after completing successful testing in Avira’s BetaCenter. Avira Free Android Security 2.0 now offers comprehensive antivirus scanning and removal, as well as retaining the remote lock, wipe and ‘scream’ features available in the original version. The free Android security app works on smartphones and tablets running Android 2.2 and greater. “There is no shortage of security solutions available for Android, so Avira designed its app to combine both physical security of the device and emotional security that data on the device will stay out of the wrong hands”

Avira Free Android Security 2.0 is available for download at the Google Play Store or directly from Avira’s website. The Android security app is currently localized for English, German, French and Italian. “There is no shortage of security solutions available for Android, so Avira designed its app to combine both physical security of the device and emotional security that data on the device will stay out of the wrong hands,” said Leon Crutchley, mobile products manager for Avira.

Given reports that as many as 700,000 apps in the Google Play Store carry malicious code, Avira’s award-winning antivirus engines scan all apps upon install to prevent the malware from getting onto your smartphone or tablet in the first place. Avira Free Android Security 2.0 also auto-scans the device whenever there are new downloads or updates, and assists with the removal of viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware and other malware. In addition, Avira retained the ability to remotely locate your Android device via GPS, WiFi or cellular signal from Avira’s Web Console, and to make the device ‘scream’ if it goes missing temporarily (even if the ringer is turned off). Avira also provides the ability to remotely lock or wipe your Android device to protect your data and privacy should your device go missing completely.
