BluetoothGoogle Android 4.3 features : Google announced Android 4.3, Jelly Bean, the latest version of Android OS with native support for Bluetooth Smart Ready, and the new Nexus 7 tablet, which along with the Nexus 4 will be among the first devices to run the updated OS. With Android 4.3, any Android phone or tablet with a supported dual-mode Bluetooth chip will qualify as Bluetooth Smart Ready, enabling connectivity to Bluetooth Smart devices which minimize power usage while measuring and transmitting data in a battery-efficient way. This update provides developers with huge market opportunities for a new generation of Bluetooth Smart app accessories.

The release of Android 4.3 gives Bluetooth Smart developers an easy way to connect their devices to their applications on Android. Developers can now use the new Android API to feed data collected from Bluetooth Smart appcessories, like fitness monitors or medical devices, to their apps running on Bluetooth Smart Ready products, like smartphones or tablets. With an update to Android 4.3, consumers can expect their Android smartphone or tablet to become an even more useful tool as thousands of Bluetooth Smart sensor products and their associated Android apps come to market.

The Bluetooth SIG developer initiative includes the Bluetooth Developer Portal and face-to-face training seminars dedicated to shortening the time-to-market for product and app developers building with Bluetooth. The SIG is hosting developer education tracks at upcoming training events in Shenzhen, Taipei, London and San Jose. The Bluetooth SIG has also opened registration for Bluetooth Application Accelerators for Android, Apple and Microsoft, consisting of an application and corresponding commented source code, documentation on major areas of functionality, and overview videos.
