Sony CyberShot DSC-RX100 features
At the heart of the new Sony CyberShot DSC-RX100 digital camera is the world's first 1.0-inch type Exmor CMOS imge sensor with a huge resolution of 20.2 Megapixels. Specially engineered and designed by Sony, the high quality image sensor has an area that's approximately four times larger than the 1/2.3-type sensors in traditional compact cameras. The Sony DSC-RX100 image sensor has a larger area that takes in more light while capturing content, resulting in breathtaking pictures and sharp Full HD videos with very low noise.

"The new Sony camera is perfect for travel, portraits or all-round street photography, delivering amazing results in a variety of lighting conditions with an intuitive, adjustable interface," said Yosuke Tomoda, director of the Sony CyberShot camera business. "The Sony CyberShot DSC-RX100 is the perfect camera for point and shoot users not interested in larger digital SLR or compact system cameras and also an great choice for enthusiasts who may already own a large Digital SLR and are looking for a high-quality, compact-sized second digital camera."

Sony CyberShot DSC-RX100 with Carl Zeiss lens
The Sony CyberShot DSC-RX100 camera features a larger sensor that is partnered with an bright Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* fixed lens with 3.6x optical zoom range. In contrast to standard point-and-shoot cameras, the Sony CyberShot RX100 camera is equipped with a wide F1.8 maximum aperture to let in additional light and complement the resolving power of the larger image sensor. Similar to high-performance Digital SLR optics, the Carl Zeiss lens features seven- bladed circular aperture. This makes it easy to produce pictures with subjects in sharp focus against a smoothly-blurred, beautifully defocused background. The Carl Zeiss lens also features an Advanced Aspherical (AA) lens element that contributes to the camera's extremely compact dimensions without sacrificing optical zoom performance or resolution.
