CasioCasio Exilim EX-ZR20 review : In the first quarter of 2012, Casio introduced a new Hi-Speed digital camera. The Casio Exilim EX-ZR20 is the fastest camera in the Exilim ZR-series. The camera offers an unprecedented fast shutter speed called Rapid Shutter. The extremely fast autofocus only needs 0,13 second to focus, and for action photography there is continuous shooting with lapses of 0,26 second. The Casio Exilim EX-ZR20 is equipped with a high sensitivity CMOS sensor with a 16.1-megapixel resolution, and the powerful Exilim Engine HS image processor for fast processing of photos and videos. We took the Casio Exilim ZR20 on the road with us for quite a while to test it out in practice.

Casio EX-ZR20 review
The Casio Exilim EX-ZR20 belongs to Casio’s most advanced compact camera series. The Casio Exilim ZR-series is characterized by speed, pleasure, and style. Next to incredible speed, the cameras are each equipped with advanced photo techniques that make taking photos easier and more enjoyable. The Casio EX-ZR20 has a stylish, shiny body with rounded corners and is available in four different colors: black, silver, purple, and white. Partially due to the rounded corners, the camera has quite an elegant appearance, there is no rubber grip, which for example its bigger brother, the EX-ZR200, does have. Nevertheless, the camera is comfortable to handle.

Review Casio Exilim EX-ZR20
Thanks to the innovative Exilim Engine HS image processor, the Casio EX-ZR20 is able to take high-speed shots. Functions such as the HDR-Art function or shooting videos and photos simultaneously is possible thanks to the powerful image processor. The camera works quickly and smoothly, however, I had to get used to zooming in and out a bit. The zoom is very fast, which makes it is easy to zoom in or out a bit further than you mean to. The Casio Exilim EX-ZR20 has a 25mm wide-angle lens with 8x optical zoom, which is a sufficient zoom range, and if you would like to zoom in a bit more, there is also the Multi-Frame SR Zoom, which converts the 8x optical zoom into a 16x digital zoom, with near-optical zoom quality.

Casio Exilim ZR20 functions
The Casio EX-ZR20 is filled with interesting photo functions. In the Premium Auto Pro mode, the camera recognizes the photo situation, so that the camera automatically selects the optimal settings. By pushing on the 'BS' (Best Shot) button on the top of the camera, you gain access to 41 different effects. With the High-speed Best Shot programs, such as the High-speed night scene, High-speed Anti Shake, and the HDR (Art) function, movements, blur, backlight and faces are automatically in focus and well-lit. Additionally, the Casio Exilim EX-ZR20 also has a function that blurs the background. The many different functions are easy to select and work exceptionally well.

Casio EX-ZR20 image quality
The Casio Exilim EX-ZR20 produces clear, detailed photos with good color. Thanks to the special HDR-functions, the Casio EX-ZR20 can capture images with a high dynamic range, so that you can create a higher contrast ratio with more detail. Thanks to the high-speed night scenes, Casio EX-ZR20 can shoot nice night shots. The Casio Exilim ZR20 has an ISO range of 80 to 3200. With the two highest ISO values we do see noise, but the camera is certainly at the same level as the competition.

Casio EX-ZR20 review conclusion
The Casio Exilim ZR-series is known for its Speed, Pleasure, and Style. That is exactly what the Casio Exilim EX-ZR20 has to offer. Thanks to the enormous speed and the many photographic functions, it is a joy to shoot with the Casio Exilim EX-ZR20. The camera is sleek and stylish, although I personally would have preferred to see some kind of rubber grip. The 16-megapixel Casio Exilim EX-ZR20 simply performs nicely and thanks to the many innovative functions, it is fun to keep discovering new possibilities. The Casio EX-ZR20 is available in the Netherlands for a retail price of around €220; for that price the EX-ZR20 delivers an excellent price / quality ratio.
