ToshibaToshiba Smart TV VL963 : Toshiba Europe GmbH presented the new Toshiba Smart TV VL963 series featuring Full HD and passive 3D technology. Instantly recognisable by its elegant ‘bezel-less’ design, the Toshiba Smart TV VL963 delivers a cinema-like viewing experience with the slimmest of frames. The Toshiba Smart TV features a Full HD, 1920 x 1080p resolution panel and passive 3D that can also convert 2D content to 3D images. It arrives with four pairs of lightweight 3D glasses for immediate use. The VL963 is available in screen sizes of 107cm (42”), 119cm (47”) and 139cm (55”). Thanks to the Toshiba Smart TV LED backlight technology, the VL963 series is very slim in design and also energy efficient.

The Toshiba Smart TV features four HDMI and two USB ports as well as a Multi-Tuner for DVB-T/T2, DVB-C and DVB-S/S2. Furthermore, it offers easy access to a wide variety of multimedia content over the internet. The new Toshiba Smart TV VL963 will be available in Europe in the second quarter of 2012. “The Toshiba Smart TV VL963 combines awesome 3D technology and stunning design. Toshiba’s first-ever ‘bezel-less’ design brings the picture almost to the edge of the glass for an amazing viewing experience”, Andy Bass, Vice President Sales and Marketing Toshiba Europe GmbH, says. “Thanks to passive 3D technology, which is widely used in cinemas, Toshiba VL963 series TVs provide the perfect solution for those who want to watch 3D with friends and family.” Thanks to the lightweight nature of the passive 3D glasses, watching 3D TV or enjoying 3D gaming is more enjoyable for longer periods of time. Furthermore, the passive 3D technology employed on the VL963 allows the conversion from 2D content to 3D, enabling viewers to enjoy any TV show, movie or self-recorded video. In addition to its Full HD resolution the new Toshiba Smart TV VL963 comes with 400 Active Motion & Resolution (AMR) technology which makes moving images fluid and crisp and enhances the viewing experience when watching sports or action movies.

The new Toshiba Smart TV VL963 also features Audyssey Premium Television, which is a bundle of audio technologies developed by the audio experts at Audyssey. Audyssey ABX guarantees the TV’s speakers deliver rich and powerful bass. Audyssey Dynamic Volume raises soft dialogue sounds and ensures consistent volume by eliminating those annoying sound spikes that invariably occur at the start of ad breaks. Audyssey EQ is a sound equalising system, which automatically customises the Toshiba Smart TV VL963’s sound settings according to the room’s acoustic challenges to provide the clearest and most balanced sound possible. These three technologies have been designed to work together and further customised for this TV to deliver the best audio possible.

Smart TV apps
With the Toshiba Smart TV VL963, users can easily connect to the internet via a LAN cable or the Toshiba Wi-Fi USB dongle (sold separately) to experience Toshiba Places - the online portal from Toshiba that offers access to a world of content through dedicated apps (differs depending on the country). The range includes movies on demand with Acetrax, Maxdome and Viewster; millions of videos on YouTube and Dailymotion; music with iConcerts and Aupeo!; TV services such as BBC iPlayer and Euronews; and, of course, your favourite social networks Facebook and Twitter. More apps are added to Toshiba Places every month with no need to perform any TV update. Viewers can also browse through the MediaGuide powered by Rovi, which provides detailed programme listings, special offers and engaging background information on actors, shows and movies.

Toshiba Smart TV gaming
The two USB ports allow users to connect a USB stick or an external HDD to watch videos and pictures on the Toshiba Smart TV screen, and they can also to listen to music via its stereo speakers with Dolby Digital Plus. The integrated USB Video Recording function enables the user to connect an external HDD to record favourite TV shows. The four HDMI ports mean that devices such as game consoles or Blu-ray players can be easily connected to the Toshiba TV VL963 so video games and movies can be enjoyed in high picture quality on the big screen.
