 Olympus Tough TG-820 review : Olympus has years of experience in developing robust cameras, or rather digital cameras resistant to water, shocks and cold. Earlier this year Olympus introduced its new Tough flagship camera. The Olympus TG-820 is a robust 12-megapixel camera designed for true sports enthusiasts. The Olympus Tough TG-820 is just like its predecessor, the Tough TG-810 launched last year, waterproof up to a depth of 10 meters and shock resistant up to a height of 2 meters. The camera a can also support pressure up to 100 kg and temperatures down to 14°F. We took the Olympus Tough TG-820 out for a practice test for a while.

Olympus Tough TG-820 review
Immediately upon placing the battery and memory card, it is clear that it is a waterproof camera. The Olympus TG-820’s thick, rubber closure feels sturdy, it is impossible that water can get in. Besides that, there is a separate 'lock' button, so that the closure cannot open by accident. Further, the Olympus Tough TG-820 camera has a true Design look and feel. The camera looks very stylish with its brushed metal cover. Unfortunately, the camera grip is not so great, the camera feels pretty thick and you have to watch out that your left-hand fingers do not appear in front of the lens. The buttons also do not allow for the camera to be operated with gloves on, which you would expect from such a robust camera.
Review Olympus TG-820 - iHS technologies
Generally, in outdoor cameras there is less attention to image quality. The robust cameras must be well protected from the elements, they must be indestructible and shoot fun everyday snapshots. With the new Olympus Tough TG-820, you no longer have to choose between robustness and image quality, this flagship is the first Olympus waterproof camera that is equipped with iHS technologies (Intelligence, High Sensitivity & High Speed). Thanks to the iHS the camera performs in bad weather circumstances, and the camera reacts even faster than its predecessor does.
Olympus Tough TG-820 camera features
iHS is not the only improvement that the Olympus Tough TG-820 has in comparison with the one year older TG-810. The camera also has a new 12 megapixel Backlit CMOS sensor and a higher resolution, Full HD 1080p video mode. Unfortunately, the GPS function was not continued. There are various scene programs and a dozen magic filters available. The Olympus TG-820 also has a Super Macro mode, a Panorama function and a 3D function. Photos and videos shot with the Olympus Tough TG-820 can be viewed on the 7.6 cm Hyper Crystal III LCD screen.
Olympus Tough TG-820 review conclusion
The Olympus Tough TG-820 is an easy to use digital camera that can be used in all kinds of circumstances thanks to the robust characteristics. The camera is also very stylish and has a large, clear screen. The new iHS technologies have improved the image quality. The Full HD video function and the Multi-Movie image stabilization are welcome additions. The Olympus Tough TG-820 is an ideal camera for (water)sport enthusiast and is available in a range of colors: black, silver, blue, and pink. The camera became available recently for a suggested retail price of €270 Euro / £210 GBP / $270 USD. In our opinion this is a good price/quality ratio.
