PhilipsPhilips expands Smart TV line-up with new functionalities : As one of the foremost players in the field of connected TVs, Philips has built on the success of being one of the first to introduce internet services on TVs and has developed this technology into an integrated, connected and simple system - Smart TV. Philips is showing that TVs can be much more than just a one-way channel for TV shows and movies. With one of the most comprehensive Smart TV packages available, this year’s Philips TVs are becoming super connected media portals that can hook you up with online content; stream music, photos and videos from your tablet, smart phone or laptop, and record programs and movies on your hard drive on demand.

Philips Smart TV

Philips Smart TV
Built on the four pillars of SimplyShare, Control, Net TV and Program, Philips Smart TV is available on all 2011 Philips 6000, 7000, 8000, 9000 and Cinema 21:9 Platinum and Gold series TVs, and on connected Philips TVs sold in 2009 and 2010. With the new Philips Smart TV you can easily access a rich gallery of online apps. These will connect you to online Video on Demand stores for instant movie-nights, enable you to share your experiences with family and friends via Facebook and Twitter, let you control your Smart TV using the Philips MyRemote app on your smartphone or tablet, and help you manage your content as you see fit.

Smart TV Apps

Philips Smart TV apps
Philips will introduce the new Smart TV home screen on all its connected products. This home screen allows you to have all your favorite Smart TV content sources in one easy to access space. You will be able to have your favorite Smart TV apps, the local weather, a search function and content recommendations all displayed on one page and still be able to monitor your selected program using the picture-in-picture function. The top-right area will show personalized recommendations for movie titles or catch-up TV shows based on your personal profile and usage, the latest apps and broadcast information.

Smart TV

Philips Smart TV with DLNA technology
The Philips Smart TV enables your TV to communicate with all of your Wi-Fi enabled gadgets, including smartphones, laptops, tablets and personal computers. The Philips Smart TV can play your favorite content from any electronic device in your home network using DLNA technology. By using the Philips MyRemote smartphone and tablet apps you can share and control your content easily. You can display photos, listen to music and play videos on your big-screen TV, in gloriously deep contrast and in full color, streamed directly from your own digital collection. Also thanks to your Smart TV’s Wi-Fi capability, it can stream audio and visual content from the internet.

Philips MyRemote app
Easily and intuitively controlling content is one of the four pillars of the Philips Smart TV concept. Whether you want to browse online content, scroll through your locally stored files or just change the channel, you have a range of choices in how you interface with your Philips Smart TV. You can, of course, use your remote control - but you can also use your smart phone (iOS or Android) or iPad with the Philips MyRemote app, or even use a wireless keyboard to navigate through various menus or enter text. This ensures true flexibility and connectivity, and means that your Philips Smart TV really does integrate seamlessly with the rest of your life.

Philips Smart TV features
Philips’ Smart TVs have replaced long lists of channels with the Electronic Program Guide (EPG), which will show an intuitive overview of what’s on that helps you decide what to watch. With Picture-in-Picture viewing, you can continue watching TV while browsing the Program Guide. The Smart USB Recording feature allows you to even pause live TV while you answer the phone or fix a snack. The Philips Smart TV records digital broadcast content onto your external hard drive, so that you can start watching again from exactly where you left off. Via the EPG, you can program the Philips Smart TV to record a show so you can watch it later. The new Philips MyRemote tablet app will also feature a Program Guide, personalized to your Smart TV, allowing you to browse through the guide and even channel zap your Smart TV from within this guide.

Philips

Philips innovator in Smart TV
Philips Smart TV is the latest offering from a company with an impressive track-record of innovation around connectivity with TVs. At the 2008 IFA trade show, Philips presented its first App home page, which included apps from a wide range of partners such as YouTube. This innovation first evolved into Net TV before becoming Smart TV. Philips’ success is based on its application of extensive research into how online content could best be brought to TV screens.
