SamsungSamsung Galaxy Camera trademark filing : In recent years Samsung has achieved outstanding results with its Galaxy multimedia product line-up. In 2009, the Korean manufacturer introduced the Galaxy i7500, the first smartphone from Samsung operating on the Google Android operating system. After a huge sales success Samsung launched a large number of Galaxy smartphones, and that’s not all. Samsung also put several Galaxy tablets and Galaxy multimedia players on the market. All with the Android operating system integrated. In this list of multimedia products we actually miss one category; 'cameras and camcorders'. Let this just be the category Samsung has filed a trademark for. Samsung filed a Samsung Galaxy Camera trademark at the USPTO, the United States patent and trademark office.

Earlier this month Polaroid came with a pleasant surprise; the SC1630 Smart Camera, a 16 megapixel Android camera with 3x optical zoom and full Android phone functionalities. By submitting the Samsung Galaxy Camera trademark Samsung seems to walk the same path. Some may think; 'But the Samsung Galaxy S2 already features a 8 megapixel digital camera, what is the difference with a Samsung Galaxy Camera with Android phone functionality?' First of all you can think of the design, the stylish Galaxy smartphones are very slim fitted, ideal for a phone, but less suitable if you want to hold the phone to take a picture.

Other differences between a digital compact camera and a camera function in a smartphone can be found in whether or not the device offers an optical zoom lens, also the image sensor and image processor play an important role in the final image quality. It is expected that the new Samsung Galaxy Camera will incorporate better camera functionalities than the current Galaxy smartphones, meaning that the Galaxy Camera will offer at least 8 megapixels resolution and will probably offer an optical zoom lens. With the Mobile World Congress just in front of us, we hope to tell you more soon!
