Living up to its world wide reputation as leader in the digital camera market place, Canon has incorporated the powerful DIGIC 5 image processor into the HS System of the Canon PowerShot Elph 520 HS camera. Achieving better quality photographs in low-light settings, boasting faster operation and providing improved color accuracy, the DIGIC 5 image processor from Canon ensures users are able to produce high-quality pictures in the most difficult of lighting conditions. High-Speed Burst mode has also been included into the new Canon PowerShot Elph camera for continuous shooting up to 6.8 frames per second.

The Canon PowerShot Elph 520 HS compact camera offers a large 3-inch PureColor LCD display (461,000 dots) that makes it easy to view and frame your photos in high resolution. Many LCD screens on digital compact cameras use a striped arrangement of dots that works great for menus and text viewing, but is not ideal for imagery. The Canon 520 HS camera features a Pure-Color System LCD which uses a delta arrangement of dots, an arrangement that works better for the organic nature of photos and videos, allowing you to review your pictures with exceptional clarity and color. Furthermore, you can view the LCD display of the Canon PowerShot 520HS over a surprisingly wide angle.

Advanced Smart Auto, available in the Canon PowerShot Elph 520HS, can detect up to 58 scenes varying from non-human moving subjects to people, landscapes, pets and vehicles, helping the digital camera to determine the best shooting mode. This advanced technology has been enhanced to include a new Face ID feature, allowing users to register up to 12 people on the camera and have the Canon PowerShot Elph 520 HS recognize and prioritize each person. Canon PowerShot Elph 520 HS features
This allows the Canon PowerShot 520 HS digital camera to make one of three age distinctions: Babies (0 to 1 year old), Children (2 to 12 years old) or Adults (13 years or older). Based on these different categories, the Canon PowerShot Elph camera will give focus priority to the youngest recognized group in the frame and makes the photographs searchable as well with the ability to view only those images of a particular person. Further additions to this new feature are 'Smile Recognition' and 'Sleeping Face Recognition'. With Smile Recognition, the digital camera will take three consecutive pictures of a scene such as a smiling baby or of grandparents at a family get together and select the best out of the three for the final photo. For Sleeping Face Recognition the built-in flash, assist beam and sound is turned off for that precious moment to be captured while not disturbing one's sleep.
