 Olympus PEN E-PL3 test photos : The Olympus PEN E-PL3 (Lite) is a compact digital camera with an interchangeable lens system. The system camera looks stylish with its aluminum body and tilting display. The Olympus PEN E-PL3 camera is equipped with a new sensor and an improved autofocus system, which contributes to fast operation. The camera is also equipped with a Live Guide menu, which makes the Olympus PEN E-PL3 an easy and user-friendly camera. The Olympus PEN E-PL3 is ideal for amateur photographers who prefer carrying a compact camera, but desire the quality of a professional camera. The Olympus PEN E-PL3 is available in the colors black, silver, white and red.

Olympus PEN E-PL3 test photos
The Olympus PEN E-PL3 has a 12 megapixel Live MOS sensor; the camera performs especially well in the lower ISO values. For the highest ISO values, which are used for low light circumstances, there is relatively a lot of noise visible. All together, the quality is good; especially the colors and contrasts appear natural. A fun addition is the Art filters. The Olympus PEN E-PL3 has about six creative filters, in order to add fun effects to the photos.

The Olympus PEN E-PL3 also has a panorama function. You can move most cameras (think of Sony and Samsung) from left to right, and three photos are then stitched automatically. This generally gives a nice result, without visible seams. However, this is different in the Olympus E-PL3. You have to take three separate photos and then you have to stitch them with the software that comes included. This is a bit cumbersome, because you have to wait until you get home to be able to use the software. Moreover, the result is not as good, as you can clearly see where the photos have been stitched.
Olympus PEN E-PL3 kit lens
The Olympus PEN E-PL3 is available in several kit forms. We received the Olympus E-PL3 in combination with the 14-42mm kit lens and the 40-150mm kit lens together with the external flash FL-LM1. The compact 14-42mm zoom lens offers a 3x zoom and a very fast high-speed contrast-AF. The compact and lightweight 40-150mm is a 3.8x telephoto zoom lens suitable for indoor as well as outdoor shots, from close-ups to broad perspectives.
