SamsungSamsung NX200 review : Two months ago, Samsung introduced the successor to the compact Samsung NX100 system camera. The new Samsung NX200 is even more compact than its predecessor, which makes the NX200 system camera very easy to carry around. The lightweight metallic Samsung NX200 is equipped with a new APS-C CMOS sensor with a large ISO range of 100 to 12800. The large sensor can catch more light, so that the amount of noise is reduced and more details are captured. The resolution is increased to 20.3 megapixels. The revolutionary i-Function lens, that was implemented for the first time in the NX100, is also found in the Samsung NX200.

Samsung NX200 lens
The Samsung NX100 was well received by most photographers, partially thanks to the innovative i-Function lens, which allows for a new form of operation. The i-Function lens makes it possible to adjust different values, such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO, directly via the lens, without having to touch the camera body. It works handy, fast and clear, and it is easy to understand for anyone. A new i-Function possibility on the Samsung NX200 is the opportunity to operate Smart Filters and Intelli-Zoom via the lens.

However, we also had some criticism on the Samsung NX100, such as the lack of image stabilization, the lack of built-in internal flash and the fact that the camera cannot shoot video in Full HD. The standard kit lens has been changed, the new 18-55mm kitlens does have optical image stabilization, so that you can take sharp photos even in dim circumstances. Just like its predecessor, the Samsung NX200 does not have a built-in flash. But the external SEF8A flash does work fine, the flash is very compact, you do not need separate batteries and it is easy to use and mount on the hot-shoe. Finally, the Samsung NX200 is also equipped with a Full HD video function with auto focus and stereo sound.

Samsung NX200 autofocus
The Samsung NX200 is equipped with a new autofocus algorithm, which allows for faster and more precise focusing, which is ideal for action photography. With the Samsung NX200’s high-speed function, fast moving subjects can be captured with a speed of 7 images fps, which makes the Samsung NX200 one of the fastest system cameras at the moment.

Samsung NX200 AMOLED display
The Samsung NX200 is not equipped with an electronic viewfinder. I personally do not miss it right away, the camera remains compact and the clear 3" AMOLED display offers a wide viewing angle. Moreover, the AMOLED display is even easy to read under direct sunlight. The OLED display is also more efficient than an LCD display, which makes the battery last longer. The response time of this display is also much faster, so that photos can be reviewed immediately.

Samsung NX200 photo functions
The Samsung NX200’s Smart Panel Interface has been updated, with a clear and orderly quick-menu as the final result. The Samsung NX200 is also equipped with diverse creative photo functions. The Magic Frame function is integrated in the Samsung NX200, to frame your photos, and there are 12 frames available. Additionally, there are at least ten Smart Filter effects available and panorama photography and 3D photography are also possible. The Samsung NX200 goes even further by offering the possibility of recording a sound bite with your photo via the Sound-Picture function.

Review Samsung NX200

Samsung NX200 review conclusion
The 20.3 megapixel Samsung NX200 is a sleekly designed camera that is comfortable to handle. The Samsung NX200 system camera is equipped with a new APS-C CMOS Sensor that can capture even more details, even under bad light circumstances. The i-Function lens that was integrated for the first time in the NX100, is extended further in the Samsung NX200 and allows for a new form of operation. The auto focus is improved and the Full HD video recording function is a nice addition, so that the camera is in line with the competition. The compact Samsung NX200 system camera performs well in combination with the standard 18-55mm kit lens and delivers a high image quality.
