SonySony CyberShot DSC-HX7V review : The Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V is an advanced digital compact camera that was introduced at the start of this year during the CES Show in Las Vegas. A 25mm wide-angle lens with 10 x optical zoom, and a 3” Xtra Fine LCD display characterizes the 16.2 megapixel Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V. The Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V is equipped with separate buttons for shooting Full HD video recordings and photos, the 'Dual Rec'-mode makes it possible to shoot photos without interrupting the video recording. The Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V is also capable of shooting 3D photos and even 3D Panorama photos. Especially the Sweep Panorama function works really well, which allows you to shoot stunning landscape photos with the Sony CyberShot HX7V.

Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V camera
Sony defines three categories for its digital compact camera assortment. The T-series and J-series digital cameras fall under the Streamlined and Stylish assortment. The W-series and S-series are included in the Compact and Powerful assortment. The H-camera series, to which the Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V also belongs, is part of the High-quality assortment, which is characterized by a compact appearance with a user-friendly character, combined with advanced technologies, such as GPS.

Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V vs. the DSC HX9V
The Sony CyberShot DSC HX7V has two big brothers, the HX9V and the HX100V. The differences are mostly in the Sony G-lens. With the HX9V digital camera, you can fit more into your photo, thanks to the 24mm wide-angle lens and a more extensive zoom function. You can zoom in 16x, while the HX7V is limited to the 10x optical zoom. However, in practice I found the 10x optical zoom to be sufficient.

Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V camera features
The Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V digital camera has many user-friendly functions in order to shoot better photos and HD-videos. With built-in GPS, this Sony camera is ideal for travel. The GPS function shows your position on the screen while travelling and afterwards you can see exactly where the photos and videos were shot. The Sony CyberShot HX7V camera also offers a function for super-fast recording at 10 fps with a full resolution of 16.2 megapixels. Additionally, the Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V digital camera is equipped with an improved HDR function, which takes eye-catching details, mid shades and shadows from three separate shots, and compiles them in order to create one realistic-looking photo.

Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V operation
The Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V is easy to operate. There are a few small points of criticism, such as the jog dial being a bit small. In turn, you do get a nice, big screen, but this does not make for fast operation. You also have to watch out that you do not press the video button by accident. While holding the camera in your right hand, it is easy to push this button accidentally. Additionally, after starting up the camera, it takes a bit too much time before you can use the zoom function, which is especially noticeable when you quickly want to capture a spontaneous moment in which zooming in is necessary.
