Olympus SZ-10 review Ilse Jurriën : August 29th 2011 - 23:50 CET
Olympus SZ-10 review : The Olympus SZ-10 is the least expensive camera in the Olympus Super Zoom series. Just as the name of the series suggests, the compact Olympus SZ-10 is equipped with a powerful zoom lens. The impressive 18x optical wide-angle zoom lens (28-504mm) makes the Olympus SZ-10 ideal for group portraits or close-up photography. The 14 megapixel Olympus SZ-10 mega zoom camera has a solid yet compact body, which makes it very easy to take the camera along anywhere. Whether you take a family trip or go to a sporting event, the Olympus SZ-10 is very versatile. The Olympus SZ-10 is available in two colors: black and silver.
Olympus SZ-10 review
The Olympus SZ-camera series is made up of true Traveller cameras, thanks to their compact bodies and great zoom range. It is remarkable that the Olympus SZ-10 has an even greater zoom capacity than his big brother the SZ-20, which is equipped with a 12.5x zoom lens. The Olympus SZ-20 has a higher resolution for photo and video, but the Olympus SZ-10’s 14 megapixel image sensor and 720p HD video function are more than enough to achieve high quality photos and videos. The SZ-20’s panorama function is more advanced than that of the SZ-10, which makes the photos connect better.
Review Olympus SZ-10
The Olympus SZ-10 is equipped with double image stabilization and a Live CCD sensor. For the double image stabilization, a high ISO value is combined with a mechanical image stabilizer with a built-in gyro sensor. It automatically detects when the camera is moving and adjusts the CCD’s position accordingly. No criticism can be made about the Olympus SZ-10’s image quality. Even the higher ISO’s are acceptable, although I would personally avoid ISO 1600. A fun addition is the high-speed function, with which you can shoot 10 images per second. The resolution is adjusted downwardly, but this function allows you to take nice shots of moving subjects. The photos look good when reviewed on the 3" screen. Even on the computer the image quality is good.
Olympus SZ-10 digital camera
The Olympus SZ-10 shoots fine macro photos at a distance of only 1cm. This Olympus digital camera also has advanced face detection technology, red-eye reduction, and a pet recognition function. With the Olympus SZ-10 mega zoom camera, you can shoot 3D photos as well as panorama photos, as mentioned earlier. Thanks to 16 different scene programs and 8 magic filters, you can get even more creative. The most magic filters can also be used while shooting video. The Olympus SZ-10 is compatible with Eye-Fi cards, so that photos can be easily placed on social media network sites such as Facebook.
Olympus SZ-10 test conclusion
The 14 megapixel Olympus SZ-10 mega zoom camera is available for 200 Euro. It is a compact camera which is comfortable to handle and has an enormous zoom range. The image quality is pretty good; the photos have nice, natural colors and little noise (up to ISO 800). However, it is good to know that while shooting video, it is only possible to use the zoom when the sound is switched off. It is strange but true. The magic filters are a fun addition for anyone that wants to get creative.
