OlympusOlympus Tough TG-610 test photos : The Olympus Tough digital cameras are known for their robustness. In January of this year, Olympus expanded their Tough-series of digital cameras with a pair of new camera models. You can shoot anywhere with the Olympus Tough TG-610, whether on land or water. The Olympus TG-610 digital camera is not only waterproof up to a depth of 5 meters, but also shock resistant up to a height of 1.5 meters. If you were to drop your digital camera, nothing would go wrong. The robust Olympus TG-610 also keeps working in freezing temperatures, up to tot -10 ˚C. Despite these specifications, the nearly indestructible Olympus TG-610 is also easy on the eyes and available in four different colors.

Next to the Olympus TG-610, the TG-310 and TG-810 are also included in Olympus’ Tough-series assortment. All three have a resolution of 14 megapixels. The differences are found in the waterproof and shock resistant features and the lens. The Olympus TG-610 has a 5x optical zoom lens, while the TG-310 only has a 3.6x zoom lens. The Olympus TG-310 is ‘only’ waterproof up to 3 meters, instead of the Olympus TG-610’s 5 meters. The Olympus TG-810 is waterproof up to a depth of 10 meters, and is shock resistant up to a height of 2 meters. An extra value to the Olympus TG-810 is GPS functionality and an electronic compass.

Even underwater, a double lock system ensures good protection for the battery, memory card and connections, and the extra metal lens cap protects the optical zoom lens. Thanks to this double protection, the Olympus TG-610 can survive nearly anything, from food fights at a children’s party to a clumsy fall when the camera falls out of your hands by accident. Further, the Olympus TG-610 digital camera is equipped with diverse handy functions, such as double image stabilization, face detection, an underwater photo function, a panorama function, a 3D photo function and magic filters.

Captured shots can be easily uploaded to a PC or website thanks to the wireless Eye-Fi support. Photos can also be reviewed on the Olympus TG-610’s 7.6" Super Precision HyperCrystal III LCD screen. The Olympus TG-610 camera’s scratch-resistant, high-resolution screen ensures for a sharp and clear display. A special layer diminishes reflections and that translates to better visibility, ideal for determining the shot frame and reviewing captured photos and video recordings. The Olympus TG-610 records videos in 720p HD resolution.

The Olympus TG-610 test photos were taken with a full production camera. This means that this Olympus TG-610 is the same as the digital camera that is available in retail stores. The Olympus TG-610 will soon be fully tested on technical aspects in our DIWA test lab under laboratory conditions. The Olympus TG-610 test photos in this article were shot at the Open Air Museum in Arnhem, the Netherlands.
