AdobeAdobe Lightroom 3 review : Whoever is involved with image editing or post processing and also has other (serious) photography ambitions, will have to strengthen their digital workflow with powerful and functional software. Photo enthusiasts swear by Adobe Photoshop software, but frankly, the price of this package will only appeal to a true professional. You do get a very extensive software package in return. Most digital photographers do not need such a pricey package, but will most likely desire extensive functionality with a user-friendly interface. That is what Adobe Lightroom 3 is made for; it is software especially developed for the broadest group of consumers: the true amateur.

Adobe Lightroom 3 review
Adobe Lightroom 3 has been completely renewed, but did not lose the interface’s functionality. Adobe Lightroom 3 is a software package for the photographer, or for anyone who likes to edit digital photos. It has no hoops with 3D or vector graphics, it is completely devoted to photography and its editing possibilities. The basis is importing the photo collection to the Lightroom database to use all its tools there.

Importing a collection of digital photos with Adobe Lightroom version 2 is not yet optimal. With Adobe Lightroom 3, an improvement is immediately noticeable. The whole screen is filled during the import and the thumbnails in the so-called preview can be adjusted as desired. It is a bit more clearly laid out. Determining where and which pictures go to which location is done with the Destination panel.

Adobe Lightroom 3 features
Another way of importing directly is during digital photography, for example, in a studio, or on location. Adobe Lightroom 3 photo editing software supports so-called tethering. The Tethered Capture function makes it possible to directly import the images from the camera into the Lightroom database. At this moment Nikon and Canon cameras have tethering support for the expensive Leica S2 camera (after an update to version 3.2 or higher).

In the tethering menu, it is possible to select different cameras, so that you can work with several different cameras at the same time. Nowadays, more and more Digital SLR cameras have video functionality. Adobe Lightroom does not yet fully support this, but it is possible to import video files. It is expected that Adobe will extend video support in future updates.

Adobe Lightroom 3 functions
One of the new functions in Adobe Lightroom 3 is the popular Lens Correction. Different manufacturers already deliver special Lens Correction software packages that are especially developed for a certain type of lens. With Adobe Lightroom 3 it is no longer necessary to acquire this special software separately. This function is switched off in Adobe Lightroom 3.

Adobe Lightroom 3 camera support
Adobe supports Nikon, Canon and Pentax lenses, and some Sigma compact cameras, among others. Via the Adobe update website the latest lens profiles that are included in the most recent Adobe Lightroom update can be downloaded.

Adobe Lightroom 3 lens correction function
When you shoot with a lens that is supported by Lightroom, it is worth it to activate the Lens Correction function. Immediately you will see the image being corrected. It is especially in the wide angle shots that distortion is effectively corrected, but also chromatic aberration and vignetting are adjusted in the corrections. It is also possible to make your own lens profiles via the Lens Profile Creator that is available for free. In practice it is not so difficult, and with Adobe Lightroom software you can also correct lenses that are not normally supported. That is pretty handy!

Lightroom

Adobe Lightroom 3 noise suppression
The noise suppression in previous versions was often criticized, which is quite frankly justified, especially in the high ISO shots. With Adobe Lightroom 3, this criticism is largely made up for. The improvement is clearly noticeable, and not unimportantly, can be adjusted precisely. Therefore, you don’t have to go back to other special software or big brother Photoshop, as Lightroom 3 does the job just as well.

Adobe Lightroom

Adobe Lightroom 3 image editing
Moreover, it is important to know that editing image material in Adobe Lightroom is non-destructive. That is to say that you can always go back to the original image during editing. Only once you export the image will the editing be definite, and always in a new version. The original remains the same, which is great!

Social Media

Adobe Lightroom 3 output method
Another new feature of Adobe Lightroom 3 is the output method. The expression that a photo is only a photo once it is printed, has seemed inappropriate for years now. Digital photography is experienced in many more ways nowadays. Not only can you take a digital photo with diverse devices, but the display and experience of a photo has changed and expanded over the years.

Adobe Lightroom 3 social media support
Social media sites such as Facebook and Flickr are refreshed daily with image and text, which is why it is not surprising that Adobe Lightroom 3 software offers support for Flickr. It works very simply, from the Lightroom image library you drag the desired shot to the service that you want to use, for example Flickr.

Adobe Lightroom 3 review
The availability of Adobe Lightroom 3 software brings a powerful and affordable image editing solution for photographers. Whoever works with previous versions can upgrade to version 3 for a relatively low price. After our experiences, we can certainly recommend it. Newcomers looking for software to strengthen their digital work environment will find Adobe Lightroom 3 to be a fine package. It saves time, it is clearly laid-out and user-friendly and for an attractive price, especially compared to the price of the professional Adobe Photoshop package.
