 Canon PowerShot G12 digital camera : This information is based on some of the so-called 'leaks' on the internet and is therefore not confirmed. However, it seems pretty interesting to us, so here we go. Various Canon announcement dates are floating around. August 19 was the day of entry-level basic compact cameras, but we are all waiting (August 26?) for those advanced compact and EOS cameras. One of them would be the Canon PowerShot G12, a full feature packed advanced digital camera that would follow up the PowerShot G11 camera. The rumor is that the Canon G12 is a 10 Megapixel camera with 5x optical wide angle zoom (28-140 mm). It looks like the Canon PowerShot G12 is an evolutionary upgrade to the G11 with updated features.

Canon PowerShot G12 offers 28mm wide angle zoom lens
The Canon lens offers a 5x wide angle (28mm) zoom with IS (Optical Image Stabilizer). This function allows handheld shots to be taken at much slower shutter speeds. Hopefully Canon managed to improve the stabilize frequency again like they did with the G11 camera. It is very effective when shooting at longer focal lengths and in lower light conditions. It sure helps shooting with the Canon PowerShot G12 like it is an all-round digital camera.
High build quality Canon G12 camera
It looks like the Canon G12 inherits the high quality PureColor II LCD display of the G11. We are not sure about the resolution, but expect it to be 461.000 dots again. Quality screens like this are of great benefit for the photographer who wants to judge or share his captures images. The housing of the Canon PowerShot G12 seems not been changed too much. We notice an extra command wheel at the front side (grip) of the camera. We expect a high build quality camera.
Canon PowerShot G12 captures 720p HD video
One of the biggest criticisms of the G11 was the lack of high resolution video mode. The Canon PowerShot G12 is upgraded with 720p HD video mode and an improved ergonomics. And where older generations of Canon G-camera were equipped with fast lenses is the Canon G12 modest with a rather slow lens (compared to the older G-cameras) of f/2.8-4.5.

As soon as we have more detailed information about the Canon PowerShot G12 we will publish an update or we just wait for the soon to be expected official announcement. The upcoming IFA, but especially Photokina show will be very interesting to see where every brand stands for today. Interesting cameras have been announced lately, but the list is longer. Just wait and see for the upcoming days & weeks, there is much more to be expected! And some of them are really surprising! |
