SonySony NEX-5 test photos live from Croatia : After the global launch of the new Sony NEX system cameras, we are, of course, curious about the actual results. We went out with a Sony NEX-5 in the beautiful surroundings of the seaport Split and Trogir, Croatia. The Sony NEX-5 is a 14.2 Megapixel system camera, Sony’s first camera without a mirror. In fact, Sony is following the path that was first laid out by Panasonic and Olympus with their Micro Four Thirds System. The traditional digital SLR camera always has quite large dimensions, especially in comparison with compact cameras. The Sony NEX-5 is a hybrid camera, combining the compact dimensions of a compact camera with the quality of a DSLR.

The idea of having a system camera with a compact format has already existed for a while, but the execution was not possible due to the fact that certain components were not developed or not fully developed yet. Now the time has come that this is possible, which was the signal for Sony to move ahead, especially after the quick success of the Alpha DSLR series. The Sony NEX-5 is meant to be impressive, and seeing the camera specifications, it should deliver a pleasant experience in practice.

SONY NEX REVIEW

Sony NEX kit lens
The Sony NEX-5 can be carried with you with great ease. Especially in combination with the very compact E-lenses, it is an ideal camera to take with you often. This is a great, if not the greatest advantage of the Sony NEX-5. Personally, I only take my big Nikon D3 with me when it is truly necessary, so that I often miss spontaneous moments. That’s too bad, seeing the value of such equipment, that shouldn’t have to happen. The time has come to put away the big DSLR for good, and to have a look at such a handy system camera…

Sony NEX-5 test photos
The first Sony NEX-5 test photos were made with a pre-production camera. In other words, the image quality of this Sony NEX-5 test camera may differ from the final version that will become available in stores. In the DIWA test lab, run by Kai Thon on Madeira, the Sony NEX-5 system camera will be fully tested on its technical aspects. Additionally, we will also be performing a practice test with the Sony NEX-5, so that we will publish a Sony NEX-5 review shortly.
