Olympus PEN E-PL1 photo gallery : The Olympus PEN E-PL1 is a camera that is aimed at the amateur photographer that is looking for more quality, but keeping the user-friendliness of a compact camera. That user-friendliness became obvious right away when I made the first test photos with the new Olympus PEN E-PL1. The Olympus PEN camera menu is clear and well-organized, and worth noting is that it is written in terms that are easy to understand for ‘laymen'. Away with the photographer lingo and welcome clear descriptions. Add to that the built-in photo tips with clear explanations and tips about making a certain photo, and get going with confidence with the Olympus PL1 system camera.

When I first photographed with an Olympus PEN camera last year, I had a remarkably unique experience. It was an experience that until now I haven't been able to put into words, as it is elusive. Of course it’s just a camera with which you shoot pictures, but there is an obvious difference with a traditional camera, as the experience is different. This unique experience has remained for the Olympus PEN E-PL1. I will try and describe this Olympus PEN experience.

The first thing that I noticed is that you start to think and act more creatively. That also makes you look differently at a subject. An important cause is in the accessible creative filters that the Olympus PL1 camera has. This implies activating the filter via the camera’s setting wheel, selecting a filter and then immediately seeing the result on the Live View display. The Live View function allows you to see your creative composition right away, even before you have made the shot. Live View in combination with the Art filter function gives you a virtual frame in which you can hang your composition. Do you like it? With one push of the button you have captured it.

The remaining features are hard specifications such as we would expect from a system camera. HD video function (1280x720 pixels), a 100% stabilized body, automatic and manual settings and a built-in flash. However, the most memorable for me is the photography experience. While shooting the first test photos I photographed with the new Olympus M. ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 9-18 mm 1:4.0-5.6 (18-36 mm) lens. This new Olympus 9-18mm wide-angle zoom lens was still a pre-production sample. Do take into consideration that these first photos are not final in terms of photo quality.

Olympus E-PL1 review
In the meantime we have received a full production Olympus test camera and we will be publishing a full Olympus PEN E-PL1 review shortly, with a high resolution photo gallery. The Olympus PEN E-PL1 system camera will be available as of March 2010.
