Sony EricssonNew Sony-Ericsson phones at Mobile World Congress 2010 : Manufacturer Sony Ericsson was also present during the Mobile World Congress. Only Sony Ericsson’s booth was not really remarkable. There was little attention for the Sony Ericsson brand; you could walk right by it without noticing it. We were able to count the name Sony Ericsson only twice on the booth. This is a strange choice made by the designer of this booth. Of course it all depends on the product portfolio that Sony Ericsson presented, which was quite a weighty presentation. No less than Sir Howard String, CEO of Sony, expressed that Sony is far but finished with Sony Ericsson…

A pretty remarkable presentation, especially due to the fact that earlier announcements and rumors rather implied that Sony was slowly distancing itself from Sony Ericsson. We suppose it is a positive strategy and most likely everything will turn out o.k. with Sony Ericsson. The new Sony-Ericsson smartphones have to prove themselves, in any case. The product that most grabbed our attention was the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini Pro with sliding QWERTY keypad. Both are mini versions of the Xperia X10, but without making any concessions on speed and ease of use.

What we have to get off of our chest, is the names that Sony-Ericsson chooses. I witnessed several presentations, hands-on and demonstrations during and after the MWC 2010 wherein many speakers stumbled over the long names of the new Sony Ericsson phones. Additionally, the names are not very catchy; Vivaz, Aspen, Satio, Elm, Hazel, Aino, Yari; each of them are names that I don't associate with anything. There must be a reason behind, I just don't know what that is...

The Sony-Ericsson Xperia X10 mini Pro has a sliding QWERTY keypad that works surprisingly well. Small doesn’t necessarily mean uncomfortable. The Xperia X10 mini Pro’s user interface works smoothly and remarkably fast. The whole phone works nice and fast which is due to the built-in 600Mhz processor. Of course you have to lose a bit of size in the display format, but the 2.5-inch QVGA screen is enough to work with.

Sony-Ericsson X10 mini
It is expected that the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini and the mini Pro will be made available by the summer of 2010. Let us hope that this will actually be the case, as between announcement and actual availability often lies a long period, especially in the case of Sony Ericsson. If a test sample is already available, is still up in the air. The past has taught us that we better not plan in a test for Sony Ericsson, as if and when a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini Pro review will be published, depends on the speed and willingness of Sony-Ericsson…

Sony-Ericsson Vivaz pro

Sony-Ericsson Vivaz Pro
The Sony-Ericsson Vivaz Pro camera phone was officially presented during the MWC 2010. And as the name makes us suspect, the Vivaz Pro is a business model of the Vivaz, which was introduced last year, with an extra sliding QWERTY keypad, among others.

8 Megapixel camera phone

8 Megapixel Sony-Ericsson camera phone
The digital camera that comes with the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro has had to take a notable step back. It has 5 Megapixels instead of the 8 Megapixels that the Vivaz has. For that matter, in terms of resolution, 5 Megapixels is an excellent (maximum) resolution for mobile photography, let’s hope they keep it that way.

In terms of design, the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro has changed little from the Vivaz. It is a bit thicker, due to the QWERTY keypad, but still has pretty compact dimensions. The keypad reacts pretty accurately and operates smoothly. In terms of OS, the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro runs on Symbian S60 and together with the fast 720Mhz processor, the Vivaz Pro delivers a nice and fast performance. The same thing goes for the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro: if we are going to publish a Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro review depends on Sony Ericsson. Our past experience has led to not or hardly planning in of Sony Ericsson reviews due to the long delay in availability!
