NikonNikon 85mm micro lens review : We used the AF-S Micro Nikkor 85mm 1/3.5G ED lens during the testing of a DSLR for a review, and have selected a number of sample pictures from the first batch for publication. The Nikon 85mm Micro lens is a DX type lens aimed at DSLR cameras, such as the Nikon D5000/D3000 and D90. When we received the Nikon AF-S Micro 85mm at our office, only the Nikon D3s was scheduled for a test in practice, which is why the first batch of sample pictures are made with the combination; Nikon D3s + 85mm f/3.5. The new AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/3.5G ED VR is a compact and light-weight macro lens equipped with Nikon's Vibration Reduction system from the second generation, thus providing steady pictures.

With the reproduction ratio of 1:1, close-up pictures can be taken in full size. In practice, it does take time to get used to, since you have to count with the desired depth of field. Before you know it, you're actually working with 1:1 ratio, and you realize belatedly that an aperture of f/8 could be somewhat on the scarce side. Still, this Nikon macro lens is a fine piece of work, with an internal focus system and a Silent Wave Motor (SWM) resulting in a smooth autofocus.

AF-S Micro Nikkor 85mm 1/3.5G ED
Close-up photography, in addition to portrait photography, is a subject that suits the AF-S Micro Nikkor 85mm 1/3.5G ED particularly well. This Nikon 85mm lens features an ED glass element, which enables sharp pictures with high contrast. The beautifully rounded nine-blade aperture guarantees an attractive hazy background.
