Samsung ST5500 digital camera : We expect that shortly, most likely around the time of the CES 2010 (January 7th-11th), or otherwise at the end of January 2010, a new Samsung digital compact camera will be introduced: the Samsung ST5500. The Samsung ST5500 is a 14.2 Megapixel digital camera with a 7x optical zoom. The design of the camera is a minimalistic, slim-lined modern shape, in other words, a camera without all too many buttons. In their place, the design department at Samsung has derived a 3.5-inch touchscreen that actually covers the entire backside of the Samsung ST5500 camera. The Samsung ST5500 further distinguishes itself due to its GPS, WLAN and Bluetooth support.

Samsung ST5500 touchscreen monitor
The Samsung ST5500’s touchscreen is controlled by moving or pressing the finger on it. Icons appear on the screen, and they are activated by touching them. But it is also possible to perform commands by certain movements of the fingers. ‘Drawing’ a cross on the image displayed will delete it, drawing half of a circle to the left or to the right will rotate the photo to either side, and dragging the finger to the left or to the right makes it possible to browse through the image file.
Recording photos & videos with the Samsung ST5500 camera
The Samsung ST5500 has a built-in motion detector so that the camera can automatically switch from photo to video recording mode or vice versa, by tilting it slightly. Besides photographing in high resolution, the Samsung ST5500 also supports video in High Definition (720p) quality. To prevent blurry photos, the Samsung ST5500 is equipped with an optical image stabilizer (O.I.S.). Additionally, the advanced Smart Auto mode guarantees optimal lighting and camera settings as the photo automatically detects the type of scene. It is also possible to manually select the scene.

Samsung ST5500 digital camera equipped with GPS function
The Samsung ST5500’s integrated GPS function makes it possible for the user to easily find the location in which the photo was taken, after the fact. The photos that were made are activated with GPS, and by uploading them to websites that support Maps, the GPS data that is linked to the photo will automatically be recognized and displayed. Such an information link can also be very handy for archiving images.
Samsung ST5500 retouch menu
The Samsung ST5500 has enough tools on had in order for the creative photographer to live it up. Via the camera’s menu the photos can be edited in many ways, so that the photo can be embellished according to the photographer’s taste. Photos can be edited through various filters such as changing the contrast or sharpness.

Samsung ST5500 camera supports Bluetooth and WLAN
Next to the GPS function, the Samsung ST5500 also supports Bluetooth and WLAN. It is possible to select an IP address, the Subnet mask, Gateway and DNS manually, but you can also allow for the camera to select the network automatically. That way, it is just a small step to take to upload photos to a website or send them by e-mail. The photo and video recordings are stored in the 100 MB internal memory or on a microSDHC flash memory card.

Samsung ST5500 available from Januari 2010?
The Samsung ST5500 has not been officially introduced yet, but it is expected to appear in January 2010. Nor has the information given above been officially confirmed yet. We will publish an update as soon as we receive more information, such as product shots of the Samsung ST5500. |
