OlympusOlympus PEN E-P2 system camera review : Last summer, Olympus launched its very first Micro Four System-based camera, the PEN E-P1. Referring to the rich photo history of Olympus, the E-P1 received a true retro design. Daring indeed, and it soon turned out the system camera formed a striking combination with the design, which made the rollout of the new system an immediate success. Micro Four Thirds is in many ways the system that photo-graphers had really been waiting for. Combining the convenience of a compact camera and the quality of a DSLR, the system was destined to be a real hit.

Olympus E-P2 review - Successor of the PEN P1
It is more than obvious that the Olympus PEN E-P2 and the P1 have a lot in common; put both cameras alongside each other, and you really have to search for the differences. It are the small details that have to make the difference, and to be honest, the majority of the differences are found inside the camera. Olympus used the feedback of photographers and camera reviewers from all over the world for the P2. This feedback by part of the photographers requested a darker or black housing as it turned out. As a result, the P2 is now also available in black.

Olympus PEN E-P2 review - Camera operation
As for the operation of the Olympus PEN P2, we did not experience a whole lot of difference compared to the P1. In that respect, only very little surprise for the tester. Like a standard DSLR camera, you can simply switch lenses, and the offer of Four Thirds lenses continues to expand. In 2010, we expect to see a number of interesting new lenses, not only from Olympus, but also from Panasonic. I can hardly imagine things will stop there. What remains a pleasant experience, is dealing with a compact system camera. What a difference this makes compared to a heavy (semi-) pro DSLR!

Olympus review including DIWA Labs test
The Olympus E-P2 PEN will be available in December 2009/January 2010, depending on the region. We had the chance to test the Olympus E-P2 in practice for a short period of time, and had the camera additionally technically tested in the DIWA Lab. Both results provide an optimal combination to evaluate the camera for its quality. Our findings can be read in the following Olympus E-P2 review.
