Acer Android smartphone : According to a recently published interview, we can expect several new Android Smartphones to appear in 2010. This time it is Acer that is following the trend, by focusing on the popular Android Operating System. According to Aymar de Lencquesaing, Acer Senior Corporate Vice President, Acer will present fierce competition for Microsoft's Windows Mobile OS, starting in 2010. The Acer Android smartphones will strengthen Acer's position on the global market. Acer is a newcomer on the worldwide smartphone market and presently holds a market share of approximately 3.5%. Acer strives to achieve a market share of 6-7% in about the next 5 to 6 years.

Acer Android smartphone strategy
Applying Android to all of its products is a logical and strategic choice for Acer, especially because Windows Mobile is only losing market shares right now. Google Android OS has a lot going for it and is expected to become one of the biggest players on the telecommunications market. Still, Acer will not follow exactly the same strategy as the competition, in the massive distribution of smartphones. So don't expect 100-150 cell phones per year, but rather 8-10 smart phones.

Android smartphone sales with high margins
For the PC manufacturer, the cell phone market is very attractive. The attractiveness lies in the margins that give the PC manufacturer a freedom that was unheard of previously. The margins on PCs and notebooks are notably lower, and Acer is used to working with such low margins, but with high volume. To hone in on the margins of the smartphone market, is nearly irresistible. Acer Android Smartphones will be coming out in 2010, so we will keep you updated! |
