RicohRicoh camera accessories for new GXR system : The Ricoh GXR camera system has raised quite a buzz. The opinions about this new camera system prove to differ a lot. One talks about a brilliant idea, whereas the other approaches it in a more practical way and thinks of the possible hindrances. Other than that, the fact that Ricoh has managed to liven up the at times slightly dull camera market is praise-worthy. The modular system consists primarily of two Ricoh lens/sensor units. However, Ricoh has already indicated that there are possibilities for the Ricoh GXR in addition to lenses. During a Japanese presentation, not only the Ricoh GXR was presented, but also several camera-unit concepts, which raises even more questions.

We spotted a printer and projector application, which are probably the same modules Ricoh mentioned during the product introduction. Additionally, also a so-called storage unit, perhaps a kind of image tank where video and pictures can be stored on by the Ricoh GXR. Extremely interesting is Ricoh's approach to manage to make the GXR body also operable when separated from the camera/lens unit, possibly by wireless communication or even an actual cable.

Ricoh GPS

Even GPS is included, an element that is becoming gradually more important to many digital photographers. In short; the number of concepts has succeeded the amount of actually available Ricoh GXR modules. This is how Ricoh indicates that, as far as they are concerned, the GXR camera systems still has a lot of room to grow when it comes to functionality.

One of the disadvantages already mentioned by professional photographer, is the fact that if you use the Ricoh GXR with different camera / lens units during a photo shoot, you will end up with different kinds of image qualities and resolutions. You will also be dependent on the offer of camera housings, and in Ricoh's case, this will be rather limited. Moreover, as user, you pay a relatively high price for what are actually two components. In fact, it is the Ricoh GXR body that contains the cheaper parts. Initially, the price is high, and that may well prove in the way of Ricoh's big success!
