GPS navigation report : As GPS navigation becomes more accessible with the increase of mobile phone based navigation systems, US consumers overwhelmingly see Point-of-Interest (POI) search as the only other feature they need, according to “PND Owners Unlikely to Discontinue Using Their GPS handheld,” from the Strategy Analytics Automotive Consumer Insights (ACI) service. Almost three-quarters of navigation consumers in the United States insist on the GPS navigation system feature. Sixty-two percent of navigation consumers in the United Kingdom agreed. However, for 87% of French consumers, the speed camera warning feature is top priority, and Germans require real-time traffic information.

Additionally, owners of installed GPS navigation systems or mobile phone based navigation solutions were more likely than owners of PNDs to actually use their GPS navigation device. These findings were based on surveys with automotive consumers in the United States and Western Europe. “Consumers in Western Europe were generally interested in a wider range of GPS navigation features compared to consumers in the United States,” commented Chris Schreiner, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics.

Kevin Nolan, Vice President of Strategy Analytics User Experience Practice, added, "While PND owners were less likely to own but never use their GPS navigation device, owners of installed navigation systems were slightly more likely to use their GPS navigation devices on a daily and weekly basis.” |
