JVC Kenwood Holdings to buy Pentax Camera Division? : Where there is smoke, most of the time there is also a fire. An article in an apparent economic newspaper from Japan claims to have information about the possible sale of the Pentax camera division by the Hoya Corporation to… JVC Kenwood Holdings. Now let that be a surprise, granted when the information is actually true. What we find remarkable is the official reaction that Hoya very quickly gave with the announcement that the aforementioned article was not based on fact. If it speculative or not, in all appearances there is something brewing at the Pentax camera division. A few days ago the CEO of Hoya, Hiroshi Yamada, commented in a certain direction.

JVC to buy Pentax?
According to an interview published in another Japanese newspaper, Hiroshi Yamada said that Pentax is a small player on the digital camera market and that a collaboration or partnership with an electronics manufacturer will certainly be considered. Such a partnership would be necessary to be able to compete with the big players in the same industry. Also Hiroshi Yamada claims that there is no possibility of the closure of the Pentax camera division.
JVC Kenwood Holdings
If we are indeed going to see JVC Kenwood Holdings buy the Pentax camera division, then we are very curious about JVC Kenwood Holdings’ plans. In 2007, JVC was sold by Matsushita (Panasonic) to Kenwood. In which way would JVC be able to use the camera knowledge that Pentax has? Until now the Hoya Corporation denies the possible sale of Pentax cameras to JVC Kenwood Holdings. We will keep tabs on it! |
