Pentax online camera store to replace current dealers? : Is this the beginning of the end of the Pentax camera dealer? The news that Pentax Europe will open its online Imaging System stores in Germany, the UK, France, Switzerland and Hungary, does not seem like positive news for photo camera stores. For the traditional camera store, there is already a lot of competition online, so that the strategic move that Pentax will make with its online camera store might be the last straw. By setting up the Pentax online camera store, consumers in the countries named can order directly from Pentax. Undoubtedly a suggested retail price will be used, but in any case it will take away profits from the camera stores.

Online camera store for Europe
And the online camera store really needs those profits. Each year camera stores close down, and that is not only true for the small retailer around the corner. The move Pentax is making by opening their Pentax online store this year will most likely lead to a lot of negative reactions from the camera & photo retailers. The Pentax dealer that has been selling the Pentax brand for dozens of years, which is often the case, will not be able to compete with the European online marketing. The only ‘weapon’ that he has going for him is diminishing the profit margin and pushing down the retail price. And that is how the retailer will dig his own grave…

Pentax camera dealers
Officially the Pentax dealers will be included in the game. But we still cannot see many advantages for the local photo camera retailer in the strategic move Pentax is making with its European online store. Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland and Hungary are the first; which European countries will follow? Pentax USA has set up a Pentax Web Store some time ago and when you search really hard, you can find a link with an overview of Pentax dealers in the United States…Do we need to say more? |
