New Samsung Hybrid camera system to be released soon : If you still remember Samsung making a statement following the announcement of the Micro Four Thirds system, you will likely have to dig into your memory a little bit. It was around the time of the IFA show 2008 in Berlin, where Samsung's Techwin Executive Vice President Byung Woo Lee told the world about a new APS-C camera system. At that time, there was talk of a 14 megapixel CMOS APS-C sensor and a possible release in the spring of 2010. We have now been informed that this release date has been advanced to December 2009. The Samsung NX10, as the first camera of the Samsung hybrid camera system is called, is likely to be formally introduced at that time.

Samsung camera with APS-C image sensor
For now, we can tell you that the Samsung NX10 hybrid camera will be equipped with a 14.6 Megapixel CMOS image sensor. The new sensor features an aspect ratio identical to the APS-C format. In addition, the Samsung NX10 camera features a high-quality 3-inch AMOLED display with an extra high resolution. Possibly a similar display as that of the Samsung ST550 (Samsung TL225), a 1,152,000 dots resolution LCD monitor. Whether this is also a touch-screen is not yet clear, but it would be the first one on a system camera. The Samsung NX10 compact camera comes with its own mount.
Samsung Hybrid camera
The Samsung NX10 has already travelled several continents. A so-called 'mock-up' was showcased during the PMA 2009 in Las Vegas for the first time. Unfortunately, it was behind glass, so no one was able or allowed to actually hold the Samsung hybrid digital camera. We expect the housing to be almost identical to the previously showcased 'mock-up'. In addition to the NX10 housing, it is said that a number of lenses will be introduced simultaneously. From what we’ve heard, a standard zoom 18-55mm, a 50-200mm telephoto zoom and a 30mm lens. |
