Delay of Leica DSLR camera : Leica's official statement about the delay of the Leica S2 SLR camera does raise some questions as far as we're concerned. According to the spokesperson of Leica UK, the unexpectedly high demand for the Leica S2 DSLR and the processes involved explain the delay. However; we cannot imagine that such an exotic digital SLR with such an excessive retail price, will have given the professional photographers the confidence to randomly order the Leica S2, especially considering the fact that practical results and a technical test are yet to be published. The Leica DSLR camera was already introduced at the Photokina 2008. Conspicuous detail; even before the first signs of the current global financial crisis.

Leica DSLR camera is delayed
It is clear that the development and production of the new Leica DSLR camera (model S2) requires large investments. That is why it seems more than likely to us that the capital involved in camera development, is being used more carefully. In other words, no capital risk investments are being made. In addition, the recent introductions of the Leica X1 and Leica M9 cameras are also a vast investment. Both Leica cameras clearly aim at a very small group of digital photographers, and looking at the current economy, it will not be easy to regain the invested capital. We are curious to see if the Leica S2 DSLR camera will actually be available in January 2010...
